Hey ya'll, I've a mascara issue that is driving me nuts! I wear contacts and the mascara will flake into my eyes (although minutely, enough to cause me to rub which inturn causes racoon eyes!). I've tried expensive (Lancom & Clinique) and Almay, Revlon, etc., yet need one that does not flake, smudge, is waterproof (and actually is!), and in brown or semi-brown?!

If you gal's know of a good one I may try, please do! Thanks! [Eek!]

Mustang Gal, I have the same problem, except I don't wear contacts. I'm just allergic. I've learned that I can only wear it for so long, then I have to wash my eyes and start over. So if I put it on in the a.m., then I have to start over if I'm going out in the evening. All of the eye makeup remover makes my eyes extremely red, but it does go away after about an hour.

I also wish I could find something that doesn't flake.

Mustang gal, I have tried many mascara products that don't hold up to the claim it makes. I have had a hard time finding a good waterproof mascara that stays put....and that don't clump, flake, or smear. I don't want raccoon eyes neither. Right now, I am using Maybelline Full'n Soft waterproof mascara in dark brown. So far I like it. It stays put all day. I remove my mascara at night with Vaseline, which works the best for me instead of using soap and water.

I have also tried many brands.
Some years ago, I tried this mascara, http://www.covergirl.com/products/product.jsp?productId=professional_curved_brush_mascara (Covergirl Professional All-in-One, if the link doesn't work) and have used it ever since, for years. It doesn't flake on me. It lengthens and distributes my lashes the way I expect it to. I like the curved brush. I tried the waterproof, but didn't like the heavy fake feel it produced.
I use brown-black, so it won't look too heavy.
I don't wear much make-up, but my mascara is very important to me.

Mustang Gal,
It's Lancome water proof mascara. It'll cost a bit but it works and does not flake into your eyes. You can get it at any department store, even on military bases and you can order it online.
Lancome is just a higher line for the company that holds Clinque but it's products are better.
There is one mascara that is new. it forms little tubes of black around your eye lashes and when you take it off, these little tubes come off your lashes! It's pretty good and a new technology.
If that interests you, go ahead and ask and I'll get you the name of the "tube," mascara!

Also, Mustang Gal, if you see a mascara going on like a paste or buiding up your eye lashes in a very thick way, it's going to flake, unless they are tubes! lol

Admittedly I can't get into mascara..last time I wore it..was when I was around 21 yrs. old. Made my eyes feel tired..maybe it was the weight of it..:D....a sensation most definitely I don't want to exacerbate at this time in life!

I have a couple that I like. Cover Girl makes a great washable waterproof mascara called Professional Remarkable mascara. It is waterproof yet easy to wash off when you're ready to take it off. Others I like are Cover Girl Lash Exact and for truly lasting waterproof mascara Max Factor's Stretch & Seperate in the waterproof version REALLY stays on, but it's hard to remove even with makeup remover.

The situation with waterproof mascara is that they can be a problem if in taking it off, you loose eye lashes. You want one that can be removed relatively easily and without any scrubbing or harsh tactics.

Some are industrial strength water proof and Max Factor makes a line of make up used in film so often it has harsh products but they stay on. Of all the companies, Max Factor has provided more stage make up and movie make up than all the others.

If you don't want to take the advice of anyone, try at Lancome, for example, to take a tester, or better yet, test it on your eyes, they will make it safe so far as bacteria. Any that you can test, step up and ask to test it. Wear it all day and give it a trial run. This prevents any buyers remorse!

Let me know what you end up using!

You can use any kind of water proof mascara and then remove it gently and without losing lashes by putting some baby oil or olive oil on a tissue and wiping it away...its gentle and you won't being tearing out your lashes...

Don't use too much oil. You only need to dampen the cloth or tissue. Plus keep the eyes closed tightly and use a moist towel with warm water to wipe the oil off when finished. Most gals use too much oil, it only takes a drop.

That's exactly what I've always used....just a dab of baby oil. And yes, wipe with a warm moist washcloth afterwards. If I'm going to bed right away I sometimes leave a tiny bit of oil around my eyes...nice for the skin. My Mom swore by baby oil as a skin softener and had lovely skin her entire life. I tend to use water-proof mascara most of the time....I get weepy too often and don't have to worry about looking like a ghoul when I do

I use a remover because I want it off clean, and without all the oil and fast! I am back to work so I've had to wear it three days running and I hate to wear it so I just touch my already black eye lashes with a dab on the ends. Still, I take it off RIGHT when I return home and the brands that remove the mascara are just neater for me.

Also, being Italian, I don't want a face with oil. Women of some races need to avoid a wet looking face, we look better matte.

But the worst part of using baby oil for me and also things like Ponds is that it removes hair color too! I want my color to stay fresh.

I am a stickler but it's part of the job. I think too. I have to use my mind believe it or not!

Q ball and all,
If you don't mind the price, and you want the one that will work, this former model who has been asked to do another modeling shoot, recommends one of the three different waterproof mascaras from Lancome, once again.

You can't go wrong.

However, it is 19.99! It does last a long time though.

Dancer, I got the tube mascara! They are selling it here. But it is L´Oreal´s. The cheaper Lancome line? I happened to find it at my make-up store here. I am looking forward to trying it..

Do you recommend that one should take off make up as soon as possible when coming home?

Did I mention that awhile back I found Dior´s shimmer powder..beige, I guess..and I love it. Have gotten some positive comments about it..even from the kids I work with

Dior has come out with a sort of multicolored shimmer powder for the spring..the basic color is pinkish there..which doesn´t feel right for me. I am basically a brunette.

Can someone suggest a good removal product then..for eye makeup? I can´t use L´Oreal´s remover for eye makeup that has blue liquid on the bottom of the bottle before shaking it. I find that it irritates my eyes after using it a few days..or at least I think it does.

Humlan,
I am told that my skin is excellent by so many people. I think that it is a bit genetic and much to do with how I have cared for it.
I stayed out of the sun and I stay out of the sun. I wash make up off when I get home, period. Never fail and have never slept in make up. I use the best products I can afford for my skin, even when I was a "starving dancer," for that min. or two! I think. like many Euro women, that skin care is a must.

I think that Lancome makes the best make up remover and a bottle will last your whole life if you can remember where it is all the time! Seriously, I've worked on one bottle of Lancome make up remover for over 5 years! I wear mascara most days and I remove it with that product. I wear Lancome mascara because I think it is the best. I wear, as I said, the best I can afford on my skin, and I test products when new ones come out, it's too much fun!
I advise those who ask me about my skin to do many things to better their skin, and to clean your face is one.

I know all the articles that say that one make up product is the same as the others but it simply is not true. Whether it's how the ingredients are used or what they are, there are better and worse cosmetics!

Colors, for example are better from the better lines. They are rich, different and true. I know, for example, that I cannot go wrong with a color from Chanel!

An example is that there is a place on my chest that I took big burns from the sun when I was young from playing tennis. It is aging faster by far than my face and the rest of my neck! It's a matter of how you care for it.

My husband who is the son of a woman who had a breast job and three face lifts tells me that it's the way I take care of my skin. I think he's right. I had to, it was my job and still is since I have booked more gigs!

So, have fun Humlan and treat your face as you would yourself, with gentle hands, and caring action! And, well, have fun!

I like Rimmel Gentle Eye Makeup Remover and Almay Moisturizing eye makeup remover. They remove makeup easily without irritating my eyes.

Speaking of irritating eyes........I cannot use Almay mascara even though it's supposed to be hypo-allergenic. Get funny bumps on the rims of my eyelids every time. It's the only one that seems to cause irritation for me.But the eye makeup remover doesn't bother me.......go figure.

Cross stich queen,
those sound like sties, (sp.) I get them when I use some products that I am allergic to.
No product is TOTALLY hypo-allergenic. You could be highly allergic to an ingredient and no way can you tolerate it.

An example is my allery to metals. I cannot wear gold, platinum, titanium or ANY metal at ALL or I break out and start on an infection.

To relieve the sty, use a hot wash cloth, (wet,) and hold it on the sty for a bit, it usually pops it and then it will go away, the irritation goes away too. Not hot enough to burn you but warm enough to disolve the sty.

Hope this helps,
Dancer9

Thanks, Dancer..I do and I will..promise!!!

Thank you for your reply..got the message..and it makes alot of sense to me!! So glad you´re around to ask..makeup is a matter of life and death with me! Don´t go out the door without it..my kids think I am crazy..and probably pschologically disturbed with all sorts of issues..but that´s OK!!! I know that I am not..it´s just me!!! OR MAYBE I AM???? but then who isn´t?

I never go to bed without washing my face and all the stuff off..but I do keep my make up on when I come home..just think if somebody comes over. And they do..my son is always having his friends over. NOOO I am not hitting on them..but they are just THERE and my face has to be on then. Well, I am making exceptions nowadays..I mean I am 60 and all

HUGS!!!

Have been using the tube mascara..I like it!!! It looks very natural actually..sort of like my eyelashes looked when I was 40 yrs younger. At first I didn´t like the mascara because I thought it didn´t sort of change things..and you couldn´t really see a difference when you put it on.But after using for over about a week..I love it AND it´s easy to take off!!! I would even say that my eyelashes are looking better..as if the mascara is GOOD for the lashes. Is this true?? It says it on the mascara thing..but is it true???

HUGS..and I can recommend the tube mascara. It works!!!! for me anyway...

Dancer,
I took your advice and bought Lancome mascara yesterday at Belk's. I purchased the Wtrproof L'Extreme + the CLS boosterXL. AND got a free cosmetic bag w/ a full tube of lip color LE Rouge Absolu + a lipstick case w/ mirror, compact w/ 4 shadows Color Design, Primordiale Cell Defense, Renergie Double Preformance Anti-wrinkle/firming and a Defincils Hi-def mascar. All but the lip color were 1/3 size samples. I thought it quite a deal! Any advice on using the products???
Week before I did get Merle Norman, Luxiva foundation & Foundation primer..& another sample kit, lasting cheek color, wrinkle smoother, clay masque & moist lip color. These were great size samples even more generous than the Lancome. I had tried several already and just applied the HiDef Lancome mascara w/ the boosterxl, WOW!! I have very long lashes anyhow, add that to it and it's a great look. Plus, my lashes are still soft, not hard and feeling ready to break if touched.
THANKS for the Lancome TIP!!! QBall
PS ?? The lady at Belks gave me a Clueless stare when I mentioned the tube mascara, she said it was all in a tube. LOL DUH!!! I began to explain and then just gave up. What is the name of the Tube type?

QBall,
How wonderful that you bought the mascara! I'm certain that your eyes are beautiful! I'm happy you like it, I love it.
As for the new products, (BINGO!!) they have GREAT reputations so go ahead and use them as directed. I love them. I go between them and other lines for skin care. Lancome has one of the biggest labs for coming up with new products that are good for the skin. I recommend them. There are others that are good too but I would not sneezee at Lancome skin products!!
As to the colors you recieved for the eyes, what colors are they?
I can tell you the best way to wear your shadow if you can tell me your eye shape, (oval, round, deep, large, or small?) I have many tricks there that I have learned over the years! How is your upper lid? Sometimes the upper lid will start to sag in our thirties.

The tube mascara is so fun, lol! It is from a company called Blinc and is called Kiss Me. When you apply it, it forms itself into tubes of black that wrap around your eye lashes. When you remove it, you literaly see the tubes slide off your lashes whole! It is really something. I like it so I keep a tube of it.

I'll grab you the URL for it, ok?

Thanks for your feedback. I always wonder if my advise is worth anything to anyone!

Blinc, Kiss Me Mascara:

Humlan,
I am just so pleased when something I recommend works for someone here. I rarely hear that it does! Thank you for writing that it works for you and yes, it is good for your lashes.

After removing mascara, don't forget to moisterize your lashes as you do everything else! They need to stay in condition as well!

Love ya!

Dancer, Thanks again Girl! I'll check out that link in a bit. YES your advice is getting through to me anyhow. After all you're not selling the stuff, like the sales gals are. So, we can trust you for honest advice VS hype. Gee I 'm not sure about my eyes,I'll think on it but the colors I got were...Latte, Off the Rack, Bikini Golden & Guest List. For the most part my eyes are green, uless I'm wearing soething very blue. Lids a little saggy in the mornings, not really any bag under though. Make me Beautiful Master Dancer! OR that's right you're a dancer not a miracle worker, hoohumm just give it your best shot. So far so great!

Dancer..I took a monetary risk (because I´m worth it ).will tell you what I think of it..have to use it for a few days to see. But it was expensive..320kr = 47 dollars! Does it cost as much in the States? The sales lady at the store told me that Lancome products a very very good and she thinks they are worth the extra money (but she would say that , wouldn+t she?). I told her that my friend recommended them, that´s YOU, Dancer..and I wanted to try something like an eyeliner which I use everyday. So it´s the eyeliner that I bought for that price,by the way. The one will the little felt top..art pen or something to that effect, it´s called.

HUGS and Thanks!! This is fun! When I need a contribution to my food bill, I will call you!!! Be warned..I am still feeding a teenager!!!

LOL, Humlan, I know the liner. I hope you like it. I use their pencil liners because I like to smudge. Also, they make waterproof pencils! Yes, Lancome is worth the extra money as they clerk says and so is Chanel, so is Smashbox, and so is Nars! Those companies have the best, in my opinion. I like to mix Chanel and Lancome myself!
I don't wear a lot of color but I like Chanel color for cheeks.

I don't like Lancome for nail polish at all. I like Dior, and another lesser known company.
Dior nail polish hangs on as does MAC!

Just ideas, good luck!

Qball, we have the same color eyes. My eyes are also very green, unless I'm wearing blue and then there's more blue than green.

Dancer, what color mascara do you recommend for green eyes?

My sister has gorgeous blue eyes. She was here for Easter and had blue mascara on and her eyes looked fantastic. She was also very tan because she and her daughter had just returned from a vacation in the Dominican. Anyway, I never wear blue mascara because I prefer a more natural look, but I gotta tell ya, she looked great.

Hi Dotsie!
Really, wear I one with green eyes, ( which are beautiful,) I would wear as a basic, deep brown mascara. It looks less harsh and more natural and you can build it up more on your lashes. If I were your coloring, Dotsie, I would also consider a lash primer, ( let me know if you need the name of a good one, they can be inexpensive. If you used a deep brown mascara, and primed your lashes, your green eyes would STAR on your face! You can wear a deep green mascara, but the trick is to put one coat of brown mascar and then one coat of the green mascara, This way you do not look like you are trying too hard or that you are "out of your mind," but like you have great taste but no one can really figure out how you managed to make green mascara look so good!

For you, Dotsie, given your conservatism and you love of adventure, I recommend this recipe, (the one above.) It's a great investment in your face and not hard to do.

If you need good products to do this with, just let me know and the good news is that there are some colored mascaras that are not too expensive.

Go for it, Dotsie! Subtle but classy! It would work, either brown, deep brown, or brown and green for special eyes!

one more trick for green eyes, ( I have hundreds.) Try wearing an orange blouse or dress. Believe it or not, it makes your eyes "pop!"

Stay beautiful as you are!

Can you mix dark brown and black eyeliner..will it make any difference???

Dancer..I have tried Lancome´s eye liner today..as my Lóreal doesn´t stay on as well..now that the weather is warmer and now that I am a year older, I guess. Lóreal used to work fine until now..could be the eye cream I am using, too, I guess.BUT anyway..Lancome´s eyeliner worked much better and staid on much longer. So, ok..quality makes a difference..as you said..and it makes a difference in the price,too..BIG TIME..but ok..I´m worth it!!!!

I use dark brown or black masacara because my green eyes look bald if I don't use anything. Clumping is always a problem. A woman I used to work with bought her masacara at the Dollar Store and it looked great. I need a new one, too. I used to love Avon but they changed their products and I don't like them anymore.

You sure are worth it, Humlan! Yes, I have found that with make up, and believe it or not, clothing, you get what you pay for! It's an investment but it's worth it in the long run. The eyeliner should last a long time too!
I'm glad you like it!
