While on the Internet, I am constantly interrupted by pop-up windows declaring that my computer has a crisis: a critical error message (again?), an illegal windows operation (will I be arrested), registry is corrupted (who isn't), window registry is damaged (I don't care), or a virus has been detected (why isn't the government this good?). I need to know if I can stop this because it stop distracts me, my short-term concentration is shorter now, and I am distracted to the point of going off-line. Help! Saundra [Mad]

I have a pop up blocker. I wish I could tell you how I got it. Duh... But I love it.

Renee, where's your hubby?

Go to your header at the top of the page and see if there is a block pop up option. You can then go to the options to stop them.

You can ususally download a free pop up blocker. Try tucows.com or tudogs.com.

You can also go to START, CONTROL PANEL, INTERNET OPTIONS, PRIVACY, and then SETTINGS to stop pop-ups

I knew there had to be an easy solution. ANd it makes such a difference.

It's like watching television without all the commercials.

It sounds like you're operating on Windows 98? There was a lot of trouble with that system, I remember getting that same dumb "illegal operation" notice all the time. Then the whole computer would shut down and I'd lose everything that was open.

Several options:
*Install Windows XP. It's a much better operating program and you won't have all those stupid warnings anymore. A registered copy of the software is about $100. It was the replacement for the problematic Windows 98.

*Mozilla Firefox. It's a browser, the place where you type in web addresses. It completely blocks 100% of pop ups.It also allows you easy access to cookies infiormation. It's much harder to hack than the Windows browser. It's easy to install and free. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

I know some of the operating system/broswer/software verbiage seems difficult to decipher, but it's actually not so bad once you start looking at this stuff. Good luck.
