I was sitting here thinking of my Granny today and it occurred to me that she and my Grandpa had a saying for just about any occasion. Here's two of my favorites:

Granny Vi, "A whistlin' girl and a crowin' hen always come to some bad end."

Grandpa Hunter, "That boy has a huge understandin', too bad it's so far from his head."

These are just a couple of examples. I was wondering if anyone else had funny sayings or old wives tales to share?

Oh I love this one!

How about:

"Lord willing and the creek don't rise."

"You're gonna get your name up!"

"Yee gods and little fishes!"

"You couldn't drink him pretty."

"Either fish or cut bait"

"Even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then"

Yeah I've heard all those sayings. But what I remember most was my Grandpa's silly little songs. Songs with wierd sounds and funny syllables making funny noises.....I remember one in particular:

Gimme an EIFFF, Gimme an IFEEE, Gimme and Eifff all day long...Eifff Eifff Eifff jack Eifff, down and out all day long...(theres more to the song but I dont remember it all)

The "f's" were accentuated to give the song the character that its suppose to portray.

It was really wierd little song...My mother now sings it to her grand kids. And now that the grand kids are older they all remember these silly little songs.

And there was another song that was sung in a language that I know had to be a made up language...I need to get my mom to write the words down and research if those words exist or are they definitely a language of that time....Hmmm got me project sounds like.

Speaking of weird languages, anyone remember 'pig Latin'? Seems like my kids spoke it, but I don't think my grandkids do. Maybe they're too young.

I wonder if it's still around.
