My 8 year old son, James, just showed me how to convert a bitmap image into a jpeg!!!

I'm not sure what language I'm speaking but it worked!

Isn't it just so amazing how smart our kids are Jackie? Especially about technology....your James is just an 8 year old little Whiz Kid....maybe you have the next Bill Gates living in your house? You must be so proud of him... [Smile]

Aren't they precious? My grandson is 7 and has decided when he grows up he wants to create video games so he can play on the computer all day and get paid for it! Where do they learn this stuff?

Maybe hes seen the ad on TV showing young people creating video games and saying "can you believe we get paid for creating and playing video games?" I've seen it too.

I took my son to a Star Wars Game Conference a year or so ago. So many of those kids want to work in that environment.

But we talked to a few actual programmers, and most of these kids just don't understand what's involved.

You have to be SO patient, because making a game can take more than a year. And you're usually only working on one part of it, like the "skins" or the "sets", so they don't really get to play like they think they do.

One programmer said you have to "live and breath" programming if you want to make it a career.

Kids on computers:

I know a kid who is a senior in college and landed a job working for Google out in CA upon graduation. Google pays for their employees to get graduate degrees at Stanford. Not bad, huh?

When this kid's dad told me the story, he joked about how he was forever telling his kid to take a break from the screen while he was growing up.

One never knows!
