Here's a little recipe from da Queen that you might want to file away and then bring back out for one of those wintery nights!

Indian Stew

1 lb ground chuck
1 large onion, chopped fine
1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
2 tablespoons of flour
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 15 oz. can whole kernel corn
1 15 oz. chopped tomatoes
1 can tomato soup
1/2 can water

Brown meat, onion, and bell pepper - drain.
Add flour stirring really well.
Add sugar mixing good.
Pour in corn, tomatoes, soup, and water.
Simmer for 45 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.

Eat.

Lick the bowl. Bet you do...

Now, here's a little something to go with it.

Sour Cream Cornbread

1 stick margarine
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs beaten
1 cup cream style corn
1 cup self-rising cornmeal
1/2 medium onion - grated if desired

Melt margarine in 8" iron skillet or 8x8 square pan at 350 degrees.
Coat pan with margarine.
Mix the other ingredients until blended.
Pour the remaining melted margarine into mix and stir until blended.
Pour batter in hot skillet and bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes

So good it will make you slap your grandmaw...

Yummm...

That sounds so good. It stays cold enough in this house to think it's winter already. [Big Grin]
Not sure I'm gonna wait.

Here's one more recipe from da Queen, then I'll turn off the stove.

Bettye Ann's Potato Soup

6-8 white potatoes
3 cans chicken broth
2 cans cream of celery (no water)
2 cans cream of onion (no water)
1 pint half and half
10 oz. Monterey Jack and Pepper cheese (cut up)

Cut up potatoes and cover with chicken broth. Simmer until potatoes are cooked (about 10 minutes). Add celery and onion soups. Let simmer and stir to keep from sticking. Add half and half, and cut-up cheese. Simmer until cheese melts. Top each bowl with crumbled bacon and chives.

Makes enough for Cox's Army and hey, you never know when they will drop by, eh?

Chatty, I've always used the recipe on the back of the Bisquick box.
Everyone here loves em, plus super easy.

Bisquick Dumplings
3/4 cup milk
2 cups Bisquick®

Mix milk and Bisquick® thoroughly with fork. Drop by spoonsful onto chicken, meat or vegetables in boiling stew (not into liquid). Cook over low heat for 10 minutes with kettle uncovered and for 10 minutes with kettle covered. Liquid should just bubble gently while cooking.

Makes 10 to 12.

jawjaw... will be adding the potato soup to the file.
It's so nice to have a twist to a old time favorite. This one also sounds yummy!

Sour cream in corn bread? That sounds divine! I think this may replace my corn bread recipe.

If you'll note the recipe TITLE for the soup... you will notice it has my Mom's name there instead of da Queen's. When I want soup, I go to Mom's. And cornbread... and sympathy... and hugs...

Maybe I can get her to share her cabbage dish that is outttttt of this world. You will eat yourself silly. Why yes, I eat a lot of it, why do you ask?
