I found an interesting recipe for Olive salad with Tahini. I love olives but have never heard of tahini. The dressing for this recipe calls for 1 cup of tahini paste to be added to it.
Anyone out there ever heard of it? Tasted it?

TVC you are making me hungry...

FYI - Tahini is ground sesame seeds and the paste is available in jars or tins from delicatessens or large supermarkets in the ethnic food aisle. Can also be found in a Greek or Middle Eastern Store. Try Walmart.

Recipe for Hummus

1 Can Chick Peas
1 smallclove garlic
2 tblsp lemon juice
1 tblsp tahini paste
1/4 tsp red pepper (optional for zing)
1/4 tsp parsley

Drain chick peas and save broth. Put chick peas, garlic, lemon juice and the
tahini paste into a blender. Add about 1/4 cup of the juice from the chick peas, and
BLEND adding more broth if needed to get
the right consistancy which is not too
thick or thin. Put in a dip bowl.
Serve with carrots, celery and green onions(or pita bread)

my grandaughters favourite.

Good served with Tabouli before main course.
The tabouli recipe is on any bulgar(middle east wheat) package. I buy mine in the veggie section at Walmart.

my favourite

Thank you ladies!
Here's the recipe I found:
Olive Salad with Tahini

3 cups pitted large green olives
1 large tomato cored, seeded and diced finely
1 cup walnuts, toasted chopped course
2/3 cup chopped green onions
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup chopped fresh italian parsley
1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
2 cloves garlic minced
1 jalapeno chili seeded and minced
1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper
1/2 cup tahini sauce ( recipe follows)
teardrop tomatoes, for garnish

Soak the olives in a small bowl of hot water for 30 minutes to extract the saltiness. Drain, pat dry and halve the olives.
Toss all ingredients in a large bowl.
Pour tahini sauce over the salad and toss to coat.
Garnish with teardrop tomatoes.
serves 6-8

Tahini Sauce

2 cloves garlic
1 cup tahini paste
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 cup fresh lemon juice about a cup of cold water.

Finely chop garlic in food processor. Blend in tahini, cilantro, parsley, salt and pepper.
With machine running add the lemon juice.
Scrape the sides of bowl to keep ingredients down. Slowly blend in enough water to form a sauce with the consistency of buttermilk.
Store in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid for up to 2 days.
Makes about 2 1/2 cups.

It sounds interesting! It was in a local paper and is from Zov's.

TAHINI is an oily paste made from sesame seeds, used as a seasoning. Tahini means sesame paste. [Cool]
