Hello everyone,
I noticed there are many writers on this site and wondered what your experiences have been submitting magazine articles. I work for a national magazine in the advertising department but have always wanted to write. I know what my editor looks for, but wanted to hear about your experiences. I plan to take a writing course this fall. I have heard that it's important to write about topics you know well which is a good tip.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate!

We'll give you some ideas but only if you promise to get us inside info on what editors are looking for! ha ha just teasing. [Big Grin]

That is good advice to start out writing what you know. I agree with that. If you list all the things you know about, it's probably a lot longer than you initially think it is.

What I did to start out is read every book I could get my hands on about writing. There's lots of good ones out there-- a couple I can recommend are by Kelly James-Enger. She wrote Ready Aim Specialize and Secrets of Six Figure Freelancing. Both are excellant for both beginners and experienced writers alike. Also good is a book on copywriting by Bob Bly (I don't know the title off hand) and also Peter Bowerman wrote The Well-Fed Writer which is good.

Feel free to email me direct if you have specific questions.

Best,
Kelly
