I've been doing lots of walking lately and I have to tell you, there's nothing like the sweet smells of Towson this time of year. A friend and I walked through this old neighborhood the other night and you would have thought we were at Bath and Body Works, only better.

Our house smells good too because we have Easter lilies in three rooms (they'll get planted in the garden soon) and I also have a gardenia inmy office.

How about where you live? Is everything blossoming and smelling sweet?

Yes it is Dotsie! I love it. The lilacs are blossoming here and my neighbor has a bunch of them in her yard. We were sitting outside the other night and the smell was awesome. Every breeze contained their beautiful aroma.

TVC, you are a little ahead of us in NC. Our lilacs are blossoming this week. We have a few bushes next to our shed. They are relatively new. I think the old lilac bushes are the ones with the most scent.

That above all else is what I miss about the Midwest, my lilac bushes. I had a huge bush beneath each bedroom window and surrounding the bay window in front of the house as well as the sliding glass patio doors off the family room and kitchen in the back. The smell was so strong and sweet it nearly took your breath away and was so wonderful. Never needed air freshner there.

I love spring too. My front garden is coming alive with new life bursting forth every day. The daffodils are all out, tulips are about to open any day now, the purple forget-me-nots are so dainty and fresh, and there are other flowers growing in there that I know I didn't plant! I think either the squirrels or neighbours have been contributing!

For the past two weeks there has been a fringe of long green grass growing around the perimeter of the garden. Hubby's been wanting to weed it all out, but something told me to wait - it didn't look like ordinary grass. Sure enough, this morning there are dozens, probably 30-40, grape hyacinths starting to poke out from inside that fringe of "grass". I planted them two years ago and only a few came up last spring, so I thought they had all died in one of the frosts. But lo and behold, there they all are this morning!

It surely is a wonderful time of year, isn't it!

And I'm so glad for her. Aren't you smile?

Flossie, fall is a beautiful time of year here, but it doesn't smell nearly as good as spring. Enjoy your change of seasons too.
