It's good to know that Boomers are being recognized in a big way--in general and, of course, by advertizers. But there's a downside.

Remember Twiggy? Remember when we had to lose weight, wear thigh-high skirts, and look like sticks with huge eyes? "Boys with Breasts," Tom Wolfe called us.

And now? The new ideal is a platinum-haired woman in her early 40's, perfect teeth, lower-than-low cholesterol, tan, buffed--a Centrum Silver poster child.

I don't know if I can do this again. I'm tired....very tired.

I loved Twiggy and her clothes but I never wanted to be that thin.

I still try to look as good as I can for the age that I am. I guess, no, I know, I am still vain about my appearance. It runs in our family,(the vainess and an almost fierce pride in our appearance) Granny loved to primp up with her silver, bun hairpiece even at 85 years old and my own mom is still a fashion plate.

I certainly don't fit the "New Ideal" and won't even try.
I think the boomer generation is better recognized by the fact that we are keeping ourselves active and out there.

Welcome to the forums Pergamon

The only ideal I strive for is the inner me. (That's enough of a challenge!)As far as the outside, I try to always be clean and look decent, but it's all in moderation. I wouldn't trade the wisdom of my 40's for the lack of wrinkles of my 20's.

Oh, and welcome, Pergamon! Please tell us about yourself and enjoy the forum.

I figure I've earned every gray hair and wrinkle I own! As long as I feel good about me and clean up well enough not to be ashamed to go out in public, that's all that matters. Thin is something I never was and never will be.

May I say this again?

As long as you like what you see when you look in the mirror then that's all that matters. At this age I try to please myself, not how someone else thinks I should look.

I subscribe to the magazine for the 40(+) woman, and frankly - I don't see myself anywhere.

I agree with you all - it's just crazy to spend time trying to fool the clock. My DH bought me Dr. Weils' latest book Healthy Aging - which is about being healthy and enjoying where you are - since you cannot stop the process anyway.

I'm 58, don't color my gray, keep active (went cross country skiing yesterday....) but won't buy in to the hype that unless I wear bunny heals with my jeans - I'm not cool. (I think 'cool' is uncool now....:-)

I am so grateful Mom always told us to focus on what's inside. It means more to me now than ever.

I am totally into accepting who and where I am at midlife.

I am also grateful for my walk with Christ because His focus is also on what's inside.

This doesn't mean I walk around looking like a slob (well sometimes). It simply means I love myself for who God has created me to be. I still care about my appearance, but it's not what I care most about as the years pile on.

Have I told you about Arbonne? [Big Grin]
