When there was nobody to pick my up from the hospital, they were there. My docs office hooked me up with them and I was so grateful I cried.

They are all over the country, where and when you need them (but not before 7AM & I needed to be at the hospital at 7AM).

This is the best kept secret in the country. These people give back by taking people to and from hospitals for chemo, surgeries, etc. They have kits in their cars and are trained to care for people who are sick (vomiting) from anasethia or chemo. They do not accept money.

The nurse who did my intake at the hospital did not know about them until I told her. The number I was given is 800-227-9954. Let your doctor help you.

A few days later, I received a Personal Health Manager organizer from them in the mail. Unbelievable. The # on the organizer is 1-800-277-2324. Their website is cancer.org and I will make a donation.

The volunteer who brought me home was so nice, she walked me up the stairs because I wasn't steady enough to do it alone. She said my feet weren't working right.

I had no idea these volunteers existed. They are there for anyone with any type of cancer who needs a ride. They are angels.

I didn't know about this either. What nice news. They are probably cancer survivors and very compassionate. What a lovely service, and I'm sure it's needed by many.

What an adventure to go through something horrible, learn about something wonderful, and then experience the kindness and depth of their caring.

Yes, Dotsie, some of them are survivors. I was happy to learn that I was not the only single, old woman who didn't have a ride. Even married people need a ride once in a while.
