While traveling home from a trip this weekend, I was talking to my Mom about the semi-trucks that were all around us. And I got to wondering---
Are the C.B. radio's still in use,
or has the cellphone taken over on that trucker icon?

I remember back in the mid '70's, all the kids out West here were getting them in their own personal cars, quite popular, all the CB lingo and all. Is it obsolete anymore, or are the truckers still using them? Anyone know?

CB Radios... oh, the memories!
I think truckers and mass transits still use them... several drivers can talk back and forth on the same frequency... and one can change frequencies to catch 'hiding copperheads'... plus C.B. radios are more one handed, while cellphones sometimes need two.
Break one nine (channel 19), this is Tail Buster, over.
I was stopped one time, driving our way home from Houston to Amarillo. I was running front door. I didn't get a ticket, even though I should have. My drivers license was in my private eye wallet, with my badge and work I.D., so they let me off when I showed my license... DH and I assumed he thought I was a cop. Anyway, we got back underway and the truckers in our caravan were apologizing to me over the CB for getting stopped. My DH popped in with a cop joke. A smokey came on and told us he wouldn't mind stopping us again.

Me too gims. When I was in high school, my dad had a cb radio. Not a trucker, but he was handicapped and it came in pretty handy in the car for him. One of my younger brothers had one in the house. He was always telling me to come into his room and talk to this one or that and I would have no part of it. One night he yelled to me from across the hall and asked if I knew so and so. I ran into his room, surprised that he was talking to a cute boy I went to school with. He let me talk to him. I knew who he was but he didn't know me. Every day I'd hurry home from school and get on the CB. We all had nicknames besides the numbers. He kept telling me to approach him at school so we could meet. It took me a long time to do that. When I did, we eventually started dating. He was my first husband.

I still remember one of the sets of call numbers, but not the other. Not even sure which one was which. He had a radio he put together himself from a kit. In those days, not many kids had them. Then they became quite popular. One day my mother had been on the radio. When I got home from school, she wanted to know who "flirt was? Oh, oh.

Great stories. And we thought all that was so cool back in the day. Now kids have the same results within seconds online. We've come a long way baby.

Louisa, did you meet your husband online? If so, that's kinda cool; one by CB and one online...

Well, ---that's very interesting. Will tell Mom that the CB's are still in use. I remember those kits you mentioned, too, Louisa. Just funny how you don't think of some things for so long.
