EW, there are retirement communities all over the country. It just depends what environment you want to live in. We have them here in Balitmore and they are like big college dorms.

Neat idea to buy ahead and rent. Wow, that makes sense because we're hoping real estate value is only going to climb at this point. Will they let you do that?

There are also lists to get in retirement communities in MD too. Some have 2-3 year waits. Can you imagine when all the boomers begin doing this? We're going to need many more communities!

Same as U.S., right now still is not best time to sell a home in Canada.

I think my friend occasionally pays a teenager to do snow removal. But she tries to do alot of it herself. pays small companies to do certain repairs. But now she probably regrets she didn't sell her 3-bedroom home that she inherited when the market was high. She's regretting because the house now needs some base repairs..ie. roof, etc.

Edelweiss, there's everything from dedicated retirement communities (Leisure World -- in Seal Beach and Laguna Hills) to "55 and better" housing with activities. Lots of them out towards the desert (Palm Springs). There's so many I can't even keep track of them.

Edelweiss3- I was researching some in New Jersey for my mother in law and it was like pulling teeth to get information. Out here in Cali-there is info galore. Some places I like are:
The Stratford in San Mateo, Ca
Versailles in San Mateo, CA
Classic Residence by Hyatt in Stanford, CA
Sun City, Lincoln Hills by Dell Webb
the Sequoias in Portola Valley, CA
The Forum in Cupertino, CA
Google the names and they will come up.
Hope that helps.

Don't forget to check out things like what is around them. Like

1. Where is the closest hospital? Do they have the staff of doc's (specialist) you'd want? Heart doc's?
2. How far is the nearest airport?
3. What kind of transportation around them? Buses? Subways?
4. What kind of entertainment is close by?
5. Pharmacies?
6. Grocery stores near that you could walk?
7. Golf courses (yuck...not for me, but you EW)
8. Lakes or rivers?
9. Baseball stadiums? Football?
10. How long have they been in biz? Any BBB complaints?

Just a few things that hit me...that you didn't ask for. LOL!
