Someone Once Asked Me

Someone asked me once about people online.
Don't I find it silly to call them friends of mine?
I pondered the thought for a little while
and slung 'em a story with a huge smile.
I wake up in the morning, I'll tell you what I do.
I race to my computer to check my mail, it's perfectly true!
I open each and everyone and reply with tender care;
maybe just a line or two to let them know I'm there!
I have seen strange things, been so many places,
have even seen a few of their online faces!
It doesn't matter beans to me that they are far away.
Meeting them has surely brightened up my day!
We've shared a morning coffee and at times we've shed a tear.
We've been there for each other; even played cards and said a cheer!
They are just as real to me as you are standing there.

They are always here for me with lots of love and care.
One thing online has taught me; something I'll never forget.
There's a lot of great people out there on the net!
How can you be friends with someone you've never met?
I'll smile and tell them, "You've never been online I bet?"
So you can find me silly if that's what you want to do,
but I care for them every bit as much as I care for you!

Vicki, this is perfect. And I bet it's true that the poeple who say this have never been online. I was once that person, and I wasn't online communicating. I used the computer, but never went in forums, chat rooms, etc.

I remain truly blessed for all the freindships I've made online. I carry everyone with me throughout my days, just as I do with other friends I've know face to face.

My only concern is the kids who meet people online. It scares the H E double hockey sticks out of me. They don't have the years of wisdom and discernment we have as adults.

Thanks for sharing.

Vicki, thanks for the poem. I have never visited a chat room or been on any other site besides this one. I have no reason to go further than here. This is my home away from home and I find everything I need here with my like friends.

Dotsie, I too worry about young people being taken for a ride by online predators. We have a commercial on the radio here, where the "predator" tells how easy it is to convince young kids to meet them. The "youth" is saying how the person they are communicating with, "understands' their wants and needs and sees no reason why they wouldn't meet them.I shudder...(Glad they have this commercial)

I am afraid for my 13 year old grand daughter and constantly tell her how unsafe it is to confide in people she doesn't know online. I pray that she has the sense to know right from wrong.

I agree, this is a beautiful poem. Yes, I am still concerned for the young who are easily persuaded to confide in strangers. We are living in dangerous times now.
Thanks for sharing this poem, Vicki!
