Dad is very independent, but there is no way he can dig himself out of this snow. We'll have to get over there later in the day.

What type of chores do you do for your aging parents?

You'll get a kick out of this. Mom has this outside light that is just above our reach...it seems to burn out frequently. Well...one of my "chores" when visiting is to get a stool and replace the bulb. Its a running joke between Mom and I that no one but ME can do it, so when it burns out, she waits on me to visit and get my trusty stool to stand on, and change it.

One time while doing this, I slipped and when I did, my arm hit the lamp...guess what? When I did, it turned upside down. Turns out this lamp will invert itself so that even a person 3' tall could reach up and change the bulb...I didn't bother to tell Mom...after all, this chore has become tradition...why break with tradition?

Now that my parents are gone it seems I have become the "Aging parent"...my son just called to say that he "forbids" his Dad or me to shovel the driveway...he is sending a snow plow over to get the job done...you know what? This is one occasion I really don't mind being "old"... [Big Grin]

We had to make a trip to MIL's yesterday to replace the battery in her carbon monoxide detector. She called saying it's been beeping for over a week. What should she do.....

It was flashing LB, LB, LB - and right there in the manual - it defined LB as LOW BATTERY!!!!!

We all had a good laugh over it. She has been widowed for over 20 years. I have always admired her for her strength - but things are changing a bit now. I expect this is the tip of the iceberg.

JJ I put one of those 'burns for 10,000 hours' bulbs on my porch and would suggest that for your moms, but I think you like being needed to change the ones that burn out quickly.... [Big Grin]

Browser57, your MIL is very lucky to have such a caring and loving DIL... [Smile]

I was the lightbulb changer - now I (sometimes) ask for help on my own. And so it goes...

Isn't it the truth?

Our spouts need cleaning and I really don't watn Ross to do it. That thought awakened me to the fact that we're getting older.

I have a handy man that does it all for me, he's a retired carpenter but trims bushes, pulls weeds, paints, whatever someone needs done and I don't know what I'd do without his talents and his prices are very reasonable too....
