There was an article in the paper two days ago about the results of a study that links breast cancer to all sorts of chemicals, including common household ones. They also named a chemical that's used in making french fries! must be the fast food sort. Did anyone else see this research? There needs to be a massive outcry in favor of stricter testing and control of chemicals before they're put on the market. Jeez, they're even making a big deal now about testing vitamins, which harm far fewer people, if they harm anyone at all.

DJ,
I'm wondering if the article was specific. I'm very interested in this as my Mom is a breast cancer survivor. We've all scratched our heads because it does NOT run in our family. We've thought over and over, where did this come from? I'm wondering if we will ever know.

AnyWAY, if the article is online and we can read it, could you provide a link?

Many thanks!

JJ -- Anything for you, hon, but I read the paper on actual paper though I think you can find it online. It's the Baltimore Sun and it was on Monday 5-14, on page one, left hand column. The headline reads " Breast cancer linked to chemicals: reduced exposure to common products may prevent disease." by Marla Cone

First sentence says "more than 200 chemicals -- many found in urban air and everyday consumer products -- caused breast cancer in animal tests, according to a compliation of scientific reports published today." Further on it says "Experts say that family history and genes are resonsible for a small percentage of breast cancer cases but that environmental or lifestyle factors such as diet are probably involved in the vast majority. Overall, exposure to mammary gland carcinogens is widespread..."

Pretty big news. I should've posted this under current events, huh?

Good grief. It seems that everything ties in to Cancer somehow. A person just doesn't know which way to turn for the REAL story, you know? One org will say this, then someone will come back with another and opposite story. Its very frightening to me. Especially since Mom had breast cancer.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can find the article online. JJ
