I have a very good friend of over 20 years whose 2nd wife (who I do not know well) is fighting terminal cancer. She beat it back for awhile, but now it has returned bigtime, and she is not expected to live more than a year, even with aggressive treatment. Problem...my friend lives in Tennessee and I live in Arizona. What can I do for him/them? Calls, emails, yes, but I'd like to really DO something, you know? Does anybody have any ideas?

I have a friend in a very similar situation. The only thing I can do is pray so that's what I've been doing.
Good for all concerned including me.

Wiz...my hearts going out to you and the family.

Let's all put our thinking caps on and see if there is something we can do. What part of Tenn are you talking about? Are they close to Alabama? Would there be something I could do IN YOUR NAME for them? Like take a meal, a special gift of some kind or something? I guess what I am asking is what would YOU like to have done for them. Do you want ideas of something you can do from there? Or maybe the other idea as I suggested earlier?

I'll try to help where I can if you can provide a tad more info. In the meantime, prayers are being offered up.

JJ

Wiz - Your tenderness is precious! A thoughtful friend indeed! JJ you are a gem of a lady!
Unlike JJ and like yourself and smiles, I also live too far away to do anything physical.
I do however, have many books in my home. If you could tell me what your friend's wife likes to read, I will be sure to send one out to her with a little note or card attached.
Smiles, I can do the same for your friend as well. If this idea is not appropriate, I surely understand.Just let me know.If it is, maybe other boomers have a book they can share with these "friends of our friends" as well.

Praying for miracles... God bless.

How about a basket packed full of spiritual and comforting little books and herb tea, etc. I would appreciate something like that. Maybe one of those cute animal hot water bottles, etc?

You're a precious friend.

I have an idea! How about a boatload of cards from all us boomers? It would be a blessing to receive words of kindness and love, even humorous cards.
????? What do you think?

Count me in. Great ideas.

Here's another thought. Can you send them a gift cetificate for a chain restaurant that's close to their home. Maybe Chili's, Macaroni Grill, or something along those lines?

You can also mail a batch of cookies.

How about buying them tickets for a movie at their local movie theater? You do that easily enough online.
