Happy Moments

Happy Moments - 02/18/06 08:47 AM

I thought it might be fun to have a "Happy Moments" forum. Here's how we'll play for all who want to participate.
During our hectic days, and in between those ups and downs, we take note of a "happy moment"
or it could be a "Happy Moment" you remember, making the happy moments past or present.
I'll start...Recently I found my long lost neice..So Happy!! when I heard from her!! (due to just a horrendous tragedy in our family)
and through this "nightmare" news, I had a
"Happy Moment"...Love to hear from all of you.
Lets warm our hearts!

Re: Happy Moments - 02/18/06 09:08 AM

Well, I'll jump in on this. The forum is blessings/joys, and the thread is Happy Moments. Thanks for suggesting this Sandi. That's so interesting that you found a long lost niece. How long was she missing? It sounds like the phrase "when one door closes another door opens." I have similar news. But for now I must say that my happy moment is the fragrance of the flowers my husband sent me for V Day. I must have trained him well over 22 years because this year I did not even have to beg, plead, cry or use the silent treatment to get a bouquet! LL, L

Re: Happy Moments - 02/18/06 12:12 PM

Lynnie: you are so cute! how long lost? well,
I say about 40, she says about 30..so lets see.
I "lost" her "for good" when she went off with her step-"mom" so I have to find out the exact year that was. If she was 18 then I was about 25. We are 6 yrs and 9 mos. apart...so I will have to get the answer to that question before I can get an accurate account of years.and yes. that phrase is so true..and your flowers sound lovely! My hubby bought me chocolates (not godivas though - like he usually does - but I'm not complaining) and
a tulip plant. That was a Happy Moment too!
I am married 20 years this November.

Re: Happy Moments - 02/22/06 08:05 AM

Hi Sandi & Lynnie
Wow!!! This must be the month of finding people who have been "lost"...I too have hooked up with a family member from years ago...I think it has been 38 years since I last saw her...I missed her and thought of her often and am sooooo thrilled to have her back in my life....I have come a full circle....
I am not married but I got earrings, and this terrific body lotion that I love, but can't afford for V Day...Happy moment??? The day I cut the cord as my grand daughter entered the world...

Sandi
Here is to a happy moment....today is my birthday and my sister wrote me a poem...Haven't seen it yet but this is a very happy moment in my life.....
I wrote one on her birthday 4 years ago and read it to her today...
Truly a happy one....by the way, the long lost relative that I found I had not seen in 34 years...the last time I saw her was when she was about 18 years old...that would have been sometime in 1972....coincidental????? Hmmmmmm

Re: Happy Moments - 02/24/06 06:27 AM

What is with all these long lost relatives coming forth? My happy moment: the temps finally rose above freezing so I took my doggies on an hour long trail hike. I had an aunt on my mind as I walked, and I dedicated my walk to her well being. It was a walking meditation with an affirmation on her behalf. I was like a chanting crazy woman talking OUT LOUD in the woods on the trail. I'm happy for all of your happy moments! L, L

I am so pleased about the boomer sisters and their grandchildren. I can't even imagine, because I don't have children, but "cutting the cord" and other miracles of grandchildren has got to be a top 10 happy moment!

Re: Happy Moments - 02/28/06 02:32 AM

Hi Lynnie
I cut the cord for my granddaughter...as she entered the world...that was one of the most happiest moments of my life....
I also had a very happy moment about 2 weeks ago when I found my niece who I used to call my 'little' sister.....Funny, she is all grown up now but I can still think of her as my 'little' sister.

Re: Happy Moments - 02/28/06 07:22 AM

Hi KC, well, I had a happy moment when I found long lost aunties a couple of weeks ago! How coincidental is that! We picked up where we left off, only better. Oh, she does not mind being the "little sister" because she never had sisters of her own so her aunties, so close in age to her, are like sisters! Love, your little sis, Lynnie P.S. She's still as cute & adorable as ever! And what a little imp!

Hello Sandi with an "I" and Kasey with a "K" this is Lynnie with an "ie." How else would you spell Lynnie? Only my family & very very very close friends are allowed to call me Lynnie. Others have to call me Princess! My happiness moment came today when the daffodils I BOUGHT opened up. I'm not used to buying daffodils. I'm used to planting the bulbs in the fall for spring blooms. I am in this brand new house & we have no landscaping yet. So I purchased daffodils. BTW, daffodils are used by the American Cancer Society as a symbol of something for cancer patients. The doggies love to rock & roll in the dirt of the back yard. That is their happiness moment! LL, L

Sandi with an "I" and Kasey with a "K" and Lynnie with an "ie." I am getting so much pleasure from seeing this triangle of love and friendship form right before my very eyes here on the site. It is uplifting to see three relatives/girlfriends sharing and healing.
So when are you all going to get together? Lynnie, spring is in the air...my daffodils were peeking around the corner of my house looking for me, yesterday.

Re: Happy Moments - 03/04/06 07:57 PM

WELL, I wouldn't tell just anyone, but I know I can trust you guys not to tell. But that morning, I opened my Bible and the page it opened to was the verse that says "Just ask and it will be given to you......etc." I blurted out, "well God, how about sending a husband to me?" I don't think I'd ever asked for one, really.

Now, what would y'all think? If the guy does call, (50% of the time, they don't), it will freak me out and I'll have to try to forget what I asked Him for.

Anyway, I don't mean to take over this thread with my moment.

My most treasured moments of happiness are with my grandson. One of my buddies I saw on my trip asked me why I kept him so often, and what did my son and DIL do? I replied that I don't care what they do, I'm not "watching" him, he is "visiting" his grandma, who welcomes him with open arms.

One of the most important things I've learned is to appreciate those happy moments.

Another happy moment was when I walked into a yarn shop in Laguna Beach, CA, and there was a small knitting group meeting. When you run into other knitters, you're instant friends.

I must go! I'm having company today. Tomorrow my sister and I are going to the Cincinnati Home and Garden Show. It's like a little glimpse of spring - and I'm ready for that!

Daisy, you're sounding wonderful! I'm wishing only happy things for you right now.

I'm ready for spring, too. When we were at my mother's yesterday, she told me her daffys were already poking their heads up. Of course, they got snowed on, but they don't seem to mind. It made me feel like spring is coming. That can't happen soon enough for me.

Re: Happy Moments - 03/05/06 11:33 PM

All this talk of spring gave me an idea...if not this year, maybe next year.
Do any of you seed your flowers? Maybe we could start sending each other an envelope of flower seeds, even a couple or a mix from each others garden. I'd love to have "Boomer Janes" Sunflowers over here and "Boomer Tootsie's" Zinnias over there. Of course you would have "Boomer Chicks" Bird of Paradise in your garden...but that'd be next year. Re: Happy Moments - 03/07/06 05:21 AM

I am old fashioned in that I don't believe in calling a guy unless you are seriously dating. But in this case, maybe you could just call him back to explain why you missed his call. After all, he did make the first move by calling you.

Calling you is probably difficult because he risks rejection and maybe he is putting it off. He did try though so maybe you should give him a break and call him back to say you're sorry you missed his call.

That doesn't seem too forward to me.

She is SOOOOO happy and feels as if a weight has been lifted from her shoulders. He has to go to Camp LeJuene for a few days and should be back home on Sun. or Mon.

Our hero is home now! Our family was at the Marine depot to welcome them home with a couple hundred others. When they stepped off the bus, no one could contain themselves and there was much cheering. We had a small family gathering at my sister's house, but you could tell, the hero and his wife wanted to get started on real life and were already talking about the details of home buying. Their 9 mo. old son took to dad right off. It was sooooo wonderful to see them together.

I forwarded your messages and hugs!

Re: Happy Moments - 03/14/06 07:10 AM

My nephew is married, so he's with his wife. We had dinner at a restaurant this evening and a few people came up and thanked him for his service. We're very proud of him. He left an immature boy and returned a man with a good head on his shoulders.

Please keep the returning men in your prayers. It's difficult for some to assimulate back into society. A good friend of my nephew's committed suicide after returning 1 1/2 years ago. Now the military makes sure the vets get good mental health care, especially for the first few months. He won't be released from duty for 3 more months and it's mostly so they can adjust. Greg has a good support system of family and friends, but there were about 4 guys who didn't have anyone to meet them. Those are the ones I worry about.

I don't mean to make the Happy Moments thread sad, but just want to say how important it is for these guys to know they appreciated. Most of you already let them know that, I'm sure.

Re: Happy Moments - 03/18/06 05:19 AM

Daisygirl: You're not making the Happy Moments sad...I never thought of the fellows that would have no one to support them on their return! That is so very sad!! Does anyone know of any way we can somehow get the names and their addresses, I for one would love to write to them and let each know they are thought of, cared about and thanked. If someone has an idea for this that would be great! and we'd take a "sad" moment and turn it happy! Tell your nephew I am happy to hear he is home with his family!!
