Mothers - 03/01/04 01:21 AM

Thanks so much Dotsie for posting the Paperdoll submission notice. Not for the fact of the opportunity to send submissions, but because when I read it, I just immediately thought: "Oh no, I can't write about that," and it prompted me to examine why writing about my mother would be so sensitive.
I've written through and around the death of my father... but my mother (still with us) seems like a much harder subject.

Anyway, I did scratch the surface of my emotions and write a poem...but I know there is much more there to discover and work through. Anyone else feel like this??

I wrote some poetry about my mother from the beginning, although we didn't get along much when I was growing up. It took 52 years to write about my father, though, because it's the more complex relationship.
