Chatty Lady not well - 07/02/04 05:55 AM

I heard from Chatty Lady's friend tonight. She has been in the hospital. Is home, but still not well. Let's all pray for her a speedy recovery back to her usual saucy self.

I have her phone number from when she left a singing message on my recorder about the cicadas! [Big Grin] I plan to call her as the day progresses. Will share more information later in the day.

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/02/04 10:55 PM

I just talked by phone to chatty. Imagine that! I told her I would share what's going on.

The doctors thought she may have had a mild stroke, but as it turns out she is having complications with her Diabetes. Her blood sugar was high and she was having some other complications too.

She now has a stronger medication which will bring her blood suagr down quickly. Her biggest problem is double-vision. What a yucky feling. Please pray for that to subside. As the blood sugar drops, her vision should return.

Her spirits are great and she appreicates all the thoughts and prayers being offered in her name. [Big Grin]

Thank you to all of you ladies who wished me well and prayed for me. I was terrified and spent a horrible time in the emergency room. Hopoefully I am on the mend and should see better soon. I notice I can see the computer much easier now so will post some. Your kind posts made me cry but then again my nerves are still frazzled and my emotions are sensitive. I love you all and thank God I am a Boomer with such wonderful, caring friends.

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/06/04 02:50 AM

Dotsie, my sugar was 177 last night which is the lowest its been in probably years. It was running in the upper 300's and even lower 400's. I was completely out of control. Heck, I felt fine so didn't watch then BAM all hell broke lose. I still am seeing double part of the time and am hoping it too shall clear up but if not, I have no one to blame but myself. I can promise you it'll never get out of control again if I have to eat sawdust....

there's no need for sawdust... We'll continue praying for you and your health... and that you make the right choices when it comes to eating [Wink] . It's not easy for me to try to diet around here! I'm sure it's not easy for you! Take it one day at a time. "See" you around!

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/06/04 06:39 PM

cahtty, since I live with two diabetics in the house (a Type I and a Type II) I'll be able to help you with your diet in the diet forum.

I recall your food being so healthy but you did eat lots of fruit. Even though it's healthy, it had lots of sugar.

Both the diabetics in my family can tell you exactly what raises their blood sugar the most because they test often.

How often do you test?
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/07/04 01:10 AM

Dotsie I am testing 3/4 times a day now. You know what makes me crazy. At 4:00 pm you eat a very light dinner,1/2 boiled chicken breast with a half cup of mixed veges and nothing but water till bedtime when your sugar is 177. Then 8 hours later after a good sleep you wake and its 193. Where in the heck does the rise come from? I will never understand that, do you?
Posted by: DreamrKate

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/07/04 04:45 AM

Chatty~

I think the rise after sleeping is just because of course, you're sedentary when sleeping. I wonder if you did some exercise before going to bed, like walking, if that would keep it stabilized.
I had gestational diabetes with my last child eleven years ago and I get tested periodically but haven't had it reoccur. But every once in a while I can eat something either too fatty or sweet and my eyes are not all together for a good part of the next day. And I've discussed it with my optometrist and he says there's nothing there and he's never heard of that. But I'm pretty in tune with what's normal for me and when I started figuring out why caused the blurriness, I quit eating ice cream at night, or sunflower seeds or soda...and a few other things.

You just hang in there and you'll find what the right balance is for you.

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/07/04 12:53 PM

chatty and kate, I've heard my husband refer to the rise in blood sugar during the night. There's even a name for it. I'll ask him and let you know more.

Kate, Ross is an optometrist so I'll ask him about the eye thing too.

Because he's a Type I Diabetic, an eye doctor and has lots of patients with Diabetes, he's a wiz with some of this stuff.

I'll get back to you! [Big Grin]

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/08/04 06:51 PM

Chatty, Ross said it's a well documented syndrome called Sunrise Syndrome. Ask your doctor about it. It has to do with being sedentary through the night and there is also a hormonal implication.

Let me know if you want to pick his brain after you talk to your doctor. [Wink]

Are the numbers going down? I pray so! [Big Grin]
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/09/04 04:32 AM

Dotsie, thank Ross for me. Well my numbers are better than ever before last night at about 9:00 pm they were 163, and I was thrilled since 120 to 130 is considered okay. But then this morning after a nights rest they were 207, still not too bad but that drives me nuts. I'm contemplating taking my last pill closer to bedtime, maybe that'll help some. Thanks for your interest and help....it's so appreciated. [Wink]

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/10/04 06:38 AM

Chatty, my husband has Type I diabetis and it seems to me that it's a tough thing to control. He takes a different insulin at night to combat the sugar rise but then his blood sugar often drops too low at night and he has to eat something to raise it back up.

He, unfortunately, doesn't try to control his eating but figures he can balance whatever he eats with the insulin. Maybe that's okay but it doesn't make sense to me.

I'm just playing catch up on the postings and was sorry to hear that you're ill. I hope you're getting better every day.
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/11/04 05:44 AM

Mary, I think type 1 is much harder to control than what I have which is type 2. Both are a real puzzle at times. I am doing my very best and hope it's not too little, too late. God bless him and hope he does well.
Posted by: Dotsie

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/11/04 10:26 PM

Chatty, that might work. Also, I think it depends on the individual. My daughter has a harder time controlling her's and she's type II. That's because she doesn't use any medicine. All of her control comes from diet and exercise which is much harder than covering with insulin as needed.

Agate, has your husband ever bottomed out in the middle of the night?
Posted by: Agate

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/13/04 06:04 AM

Dotsie, what do you mean by bottomed out?
Posted by: Dotsie

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/13/04 03:50 PM

IT's when the blood sugar level gets so low that they become unconscience. You need to give them sugar to get them to come.

This doesn't typically happen during the day because they feel themselves getting low and eat something. During the night they can't catch themselves because they're sleeping.

It's scary.

Hi Chatty,

Just wanted to put my 'two-cents' worth in and let you know that I'm keeping you in my prayers and hoping you're well soon. Sometimes an illness goes on for awhile; but don't give up. Wellness often takes time, effort, medication and a Dr's expertise.

Just know that we 'boomer' women care and want the best for you!

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/13/04 09:51 PM

Chatty,
After I came out of the hospital it was hard for me to get the blood sugars down. I tried to behave and do what I had been told. The doctor later told me part of the high blood sugar was because of the trauma of being in the hospital.
Hang in there and keep doing what your supposed to. They will come down. [Smile] I know this is frustrating but like Toni said "it does take time"

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/22/04 02:16 AM

Yes I feel so much better and am ashamed of myself for not taking charge of my illiness sooner. I acted like I didn't have any problems for years and it didn't bother me until this last time, BAM, but it got my full attention. The loss of my sight was the scariest thing ever to me and now with perfect control it has returned to what it was before so long as I keep my sugar below 150. Today I applied for and got a new job I am so proud of. I start in 2 weeks. I will post the info under Working Women.

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/22/04 05:12 PM

Chatty, I'm so glad you've seen this as a wake- up call. It's so important to take good care of yourself when you're a diabetic. There can be many complications, but if you take charge of your numbers you can be healthier than the rest of us because you'll be eating better and exercising too.

How's the exercising going? Still swimming laps and marching?

Can't wait to hear about your job. Will you still be doing the telephone work?
Posted by: Dotsie

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/22/04 05:13 PM

Oh, and I still think you should write a book about the sex phone calls. It would definitely sell if you came up with a clever title about men's loneliness and secret escapes. the stories you could tell! [Eek!]

I will be happy to be employed outside the home and not doing the sex calls anymore at all. I kind of promised the Lord God that if he helped me regain my sight I would no longer waste my talents or any of the God given attributes on doing smut. I have been offered a job that starts in 2 weeks, one to be proud of, one that helps others, sick kids and their parents. Please read my post under Professional Women, I think thats the name, Professional something or other to see about my new job and thanks for all the prayers. I still need some as I have one eye that wants to go nuts every now and again...

Chatty, some peple may think it's odd that I think you should write this book, but I think it would tell America so much about the loneliness in married men. It's time for America to wake up and focus on the intimacy between marriage partners. That could be your angle?

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/25/04 03:30 PM

well I've heard tell that the Lord works in mysterious ways [Smile]

does seem kinda interesting that first there was the telephone call job -- then blindness (and thank goodness recovery) -- then a new job helping people ---- hmmmmmmm -- you may have something there Dotsie -- [Smile]

and you just might want to think about that book "chatty lady" [Smile]

we can start calling you "quill lady" [Big Grin]

Re: Chatty Lady not well - 07/25/04 06:08 PM

And Chatty, your book could also help people. There is an epidemic of loneliness in this country and it is the foundation of a lot of other problems. It's something that seems to scare people and is not being addressed. I guess no one knows where to start.
