Panty hose are out of style????

Panty hose are out of style???? - 01/26/06 08:35 AM

Last night my daughter told me that panty hose are out of style and lo and behold in today's fashion hidelines the statement appeared as fact.

Thanks to "Sex and the City" and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, you're behind the times if you do wear them.

They have their advantages and disadvantages. One must consider that these very women who started this trend are ones who are picked up and dropped off right at the entrances of their destinations. No one is going to think I'm fashionable if I go sans hose in our climate. They'll simply look at me and think, "that woman must be freezing to death."

I think I'll keep my tights and panty hose except in the summer when you can get away with this. I'll risk being "behind the times."

Down here in Florida, pantyhose is definitely out of style. Even when my daughter got married in November last year, she went sans hose.

There's nothing worse than sweating through your pantyhose. Yuck!

And up here in Ottawa, you can't survive winter without longjohns! When I was working, I tried just wearing pantyhose (even under my slacks), but just about froze to death waiting at the busstop (at 6:30am and then again at 8pm that evening).

One can be very creative at getting away with wearing longjohns, even with a skirt (long boots and a long coat will hide anything...but then you always have to pray that you don't end up in the hospital emergency room for any reason!)

I used to have to wear ugly thick men's longjohns, until I discovered "CuddleDuds"...they have not only revolutionalized the way I survive cold winter weather (I can still wear tight-fitting slacks over them), but they even make me feel sexy while wearing them.

Okay, so where do you get these CuddleDuds?

Well...I had never heard of "CuddleDuds" either so I googled... JC Penny's have them.

Look like they would have a lot less bulk.

I just did a Google search on these. JC Penney's has them among others, and they spell it Cuddl Duds. They sound really nice!! They are 100% cotton on the inside, with a thin layer of nylon on the outside, so they are silkier under your clothes!
Thanks, Eagle!

Brenda, you're a fellow "Googler"!!!

Here's a plus - they won't run!!

Yep...sure am.
Think I order the pants...when I get cold, my teeth chatter util I warm up. It's ugly...

Sorry I wasn't here to answer the question. Thanks Brenda! I'm an avid Googler too, couldn't survive the Internet without it. These Cuddl Duds are So comfortable that I forget I have them on, until I don't, and then I freeze. I even wear them around the house under my slacks so we can keep the heat down. I have several pairs, a few white and a few black, thanks to my step-daughter who used to buy me a pair every Christmas. I also have a few of the long sleeve shirts to wear under my sweaters.

With the temps often hovering around -12 Celsius these days (I think that's about 9 Fahrenheit), one has to find ways to adapt, or hibernate, and even then those Cuddl Duds are indispensible!

Brenda, I think you should order a pair too...honestly, if you're shivering at all, you'll be so glad you have these to ward off the cold.

PS Brenda, I just checked the tag on my long johns and you're right, they're actually spelled Cuddl Duds...I never noticed that before. Talk about optical illusions...I always saw an "e" on the end of that word "Cuddl"!

Brenda, what would we do without you? You and Eagleheart always find the answers for us. I do have a JC Penney catalog. Thanks Brenda!

I could use these on my hiking journeys. I do have a few pairs of L.L. Bean flannel lined jeans but I was still cold yesterday hiking for miles in all that heavy wind.

I'm waiting for "furry" (hairy) legs to be in fashion...no more diligent shaving [Razz]

Eagle, I've been a fan of Cuddle duds for a long time. I'm always cold, and freeze without them. You can get them in long sleeve, short sleeve or sleeveless. I couldn't get through the winter without them!

Evie, were you watching the weather in Toronto last week? They were walking around in shorts and tank tops while we were still slip-sliding around in a blizzard and -10 temps! Weird weather, and we're only a few hours apart.

You might need TWO pairs of CuddlDuds (AND flannel-lined jeans) to stay warm in those temperatures!

Daisygirl, I have several long sleeves and two sleeveless, but none of the short sleeves (because I have so many t-shirts). I like the sleeveless tops in spring, especially while gardening, when it's not quite warm enough to go without that slight extra layer of protection but too warm for the long sleeve.

A Cuddl Dude could work too...mine's been working a lot lately, so I can't speak from recent personal experience...

Actually, I would prefer a Cuddl Dude, but have to settle for a Cuddle Weim and my CuddlDuds.

Next time I go to Penny's I'll check those out -- the duds, not the dudes. My dude gets up with the birds, so I wake up freezing every morning.

Anyone remember the fishnet hose that were popular back in the day? You could freeze your little legs off in the winter. Which is why sane people wore tights!

Jackie, I did wear those fishnet things and my legs did freeze!

I may be the odd one out here but I HATE PANTYHOSE always have. I find them ugly, uncomfortable and just icky all around. I do love thigh highs silk stockings with a two inch row of elastic lace at the top to hold them in place or even a garter belt once in awhile. Of course most of the year here in the desert I am tan so don't need anything to wear....Even in Chicago when it was 32 below wind chill factor and soooo windy I wore corduroy slacks under my dress, or skirt until I got to work and always knee high leather boots...different strokes! That may be the reason more women are wearing slacks. I used to wear skirts to work all the time, but you can't find any that are suitable for business and not look frumpy.

I've never really liked pantyhose, either. I think they were invented by a man. LOL LOL

As I sit here with double compression stockings, panty hose sound wonderful. I stopped wearing them about four years ago except on cold winter days, under slacks.

Re: Panty hose are out of style???? - 01/27/06 01:38 AM

What are double compression stockings? Are they for varicose veins?

Re: Panty hose are out of style???? - 01/27/06 03:49 AM

They are for after the doctor took a hook and pulled those suckers out! I can't even take a shower until Saturday. Gross. I'm a bandaged, compressed mess.

Ugh Pantyhose drive me crazy!!! I wear Thigh highs ...the ones I love the best are from Victoria's Secret...they have pretty lacy tops with elastic to keep them up and they don't run easily...also...when you buy them they give you a card and after you purchase 10 pairs you get a pair free...

Dianne...I hope you heal quickly from your surgery...everyone I know who has had it done just raves about how great it is...did you have pain associated with your varicose veins?

Chatty...I love your new signature quote!!!

I'm just sore in one spot but other than that, I'm fine. I have the last one done Monday. And yes, they were painful. They only get worse and the other bad news is, others will come in to take the place of the ones I had removed. Thanks Dad, for passing these onto me!

Re: Panty hose are out of style???? - 01/27/06 07:58 PM

Oh no! I am in bad trouble if panty hose are out. I remember wearing those little things that held up the regular nylons. I hated them and still do.

I guess I'll have to hoard the panty hose I have and hope they last. I live in the south and only wear them now and then but cannot wear those thigh highs. They just don't work with my legs. What's a girl to do?

Dianne, shouldn't you be staying off your feet for the best recovery? I picture you packing and going through things, and picking up for the realtors. I hope not!

I have my Cuddl Duds on as we speak. I wear them when I walk this time of year. They're the best. And it's funny because I just learned about them this Christmas when a walking friend gave me a pair.

Dots, I have to stay active or I could get blood clots. The more active, the better.

I'm bringing this back up because in todays Plain Dealer it shows that tights are now a hot fashion accessory with skirts and dresses.

Last week the fashion editor who wrote that panty hose were out of style admits she took a lot of flak from women our ages with her article decrying their demise.

Tights are back in style again? Hmmm.....what's that saying, "The more things change, the more they stay the same."
