36C - Life in Lingerie is out! - 12/14/06 08:47 PM

Hi!
My new book 36C was recently released by DiskUs Publishing!
It's the tale of a curvy lingerie shop girl who is searching for the perfect fit in life and love. You can see the first chapter at http://www.theroseandthornezine.com/Fall06/ReadingRoom.html

Here's a short synopsis:
Oh, for a life as full as your figure! Tressa Connell dreams of finding the right fellow, of putting her graphics art degree to work, and of traveling to Venice. Instead, she's stuck in a dead-end job selling lingerie to rail-thin women who prowl the high-end Manhattan boutique where she works. Hounded by a helmet-haired boss, befriended by a troubled Latina makeup artist, and wooed by a Jewish cop, Tressa also dreams that she has a giant grandfather clock strapped to her back, a bushel of eggs in her arms, and her mother cracking a Pampers whip over her head. Tressa navigates the "seamy" underworld of undergarments and struggles with the interfaith divide of her new romance. Can she find a perfect fit?

This is a fun book about body image and I'd love to
hear from any of you who read the book.

Welcome Barbara, nice of you to pop in and advertise your book, why not tell us a bit about yourself like most newbies do who want to be a part of the forum.

Thanks for the welcome! I do tend to lurk, so I'm coming out of hiding as I steeled myself with a couple of eggnog shooters. I'm Publisher & Managing Editor of The Rose & Thorn Ezine, a terrific spot for writers and readers too. R&T is staffed by all volunteers and has been around since 1998. We feature great art and author interviews as well as poetry and prose. Me? I've recently had the good fortune to have two novels pubbed by DiskUs. I'm a native NYer, and I split my time between Montebello, NY and Bradley Beach, NJ as I love the shore. And wine. I love my wine. Oh, and travel! My latest WIP is about a group of boomer women. Ciao!

Welcome, Barbara! We're glad you came out to play!

Since you're a New Yorker, are you familiar with www.thethreetomatoes.com? They have a neat site with lots of cool things going on.

Looking forward to seeing you around the forums...

That 3 tomatoes site is such fun, Kathy. Thanks for telling me about it. Where is Wrightwood CA? I have a best friend
in Carlsbad (we went to La Costa together and had such a terrific spa weekend) and I lived in the bay area for a few years eons ago.

Hi Saundra! Thanks for the kind words about the first chapter. I'm headed to Fla. in Feb. to visit a girlfriend in Anna Maria Island. That's on the other side from where you are (I think). Ciao....

Barbara, welcome to the neighborhood. There are lots of writers among us. Feel free to post any contests you may have on our site. I am familiar with your magazine. I believe several women here have been published with you.

Hi Dotsie! Every other month The Rose & Thorn Newsletter comes out and we feature markets and contests for writers. We've featured this site too, natch, in our section called Of Literary Note. We also have a section called The Buzz where we give writers a free notice about their new releases or accomplishments, so anyone interested do shoot me an email with ad ready copy for some free press. And we recently launched Roses and Thorns, our new book review section, so authors can submit info on their books for possible review. I'm glad to connect with you all!

Welcome Barbara glad to have you here. Great sites. Had to laugh at Carmen and Tressa'a bar adventure, ugh, imagine someone vomiting on someone in a public place, how absurd. Oh and I agree, MEN!!!!

Wooo---woooo---You're sooo lucky! I haven't been to La Costa since the latest remodeling but I'm gonna get back there someday. I do love Carlsbad. Nothing like sunset at Del Mar Plaza! Love your shoe picture, Dianne. I was shoe shopping today and got some pretty beaded ones for next summer's wedding of my son.

Chatty, Beware the deadly BJ shots or you too
could wind up doing, um, inappropriate things!

Welcome to the group, Barbara. Your book sounds great. I've heard of your magazine too. Although, I must confess. I haven't checked it out. Bad me.

But, I am rectifying that right now. Very nice site. Lots of information. I'd love to add my writers' forum to your Writers Resources list. Shall I send my information and link to Meredith Morgenstern or to you?

Hi Vicki! Thanks for visiting the website. I enjoyed yours too. While we aren't updating that Writer's Resources page any longer, when you have a new release, I'm happy to give you a free notice in the R&T newsletter. Also, we have a book review site called Roses and Thorns so if you'd like to submit info about your work for consideration for a review feel free to do that. The staff are all volunteers so there are no guarantees that anyone will snap up a book, but you never know!

Thanks, I'll do that. My most recent release was July of 2006 is that too late for a review?

Not at all late. Do send along a few lines about it to me, to try to hook someone's interest, and I'll forward that to the review staff for their consideration.

I did a BJ shot at my bachelorette party. I almost vomited too. No hands was a complication and it was so sweet. Yuck. I immediately thought of it while reading the first chapter.

Oh honey, I could talk about shoes all day! My favorite material thing.

Re: 36C - Life in Lingerie is out! - 12/22/06 04:30 PM

Dianne, Too funny about your bachelorette party. I had an email from someone who said she'd done BJ shots at her wedding, an image that made my head spin! Wonder if the photog caught that?

Shoes. Purses. Geez. And I do love sparkly things. But I can't wear the real high ones anymore as the arthroscoped knee is not happy with them. So it was 3 inch sparkly beaded ones I found last week for my son's upcoming wedding. The 4 inch heels definitely make what's left of my ovaries ache, and not in a good way. And they aren't practical for the gym either.

I laughed out loud at that! I almost need to see a Chiropractor anymore after wearing the real high ones. Darn! I posted earlier about "crashing" into our stereo cabinet while breaking in a new pair of heels. Not a pretty site.

The photographer did get a pic of me doing that BJ shot! Very feminine. Not!

Renee, Yanno, life's too short not to laugh so I'm glad I made you chuckle.

You have a great euphonic name.

Me, I'm just a BarbiQ.
