I recently heard marriage described as follows:

Marriage is an Institution,
You have to be Committed to it...
Does that sound like something you'd want?

Sorry but had to pass this one along, too funny.

Hi, Chatty: As a Catholic, I was brought up to believe that marriage is an institution and one has to be committed to embrace it. I still believe that. The Catholic marriage is sacramental and the vows attached to it, which is not made solely between husband and wife but also to God, foists a tremendous responsibility on the dimensions unique to it which are sacred and untouchable: "What God has put together let no man put asunder". Some people may not agree and may even suggest that Catholic marriage vows may need to move goalposts in view of Catholic teachings against several issues like birth control etc. There are also provisions within the Catholic Church which allows married couples to separate or divorce when the marriage becomes untenable but the applications are very rigid. But, before any or such applications are made, in honor of the sacrament which has bound the marriage, one is committed to find ways and means to work on any marital difficulties.
