It would make me nervous, too! Don't think I would try, though Steve and I DID Meet through a newspaper dating service. (And I met -- note I didn't say 'kissed' -- a lot of frogs before I found my prince...)

Ihave heard so many horror dtorys of meeting on the internet. I would say about 12 bad to 2 good storys. I don't have the nerve to date on the internet so just stay single.

I find it a rather scary prospect. A daughter of the featured lady is recording car license plate numbers of the guys mom dates. I'm thinking a wiser method would be to research the bloat before momma even leaves the yard with a stranger!!!

Hi BW,

I met my husband online. It took years to find the right guy, but I dated some awesome people.

You just have to be careful. I dated guys for ages before I told them where I lived. And... you must always meet the guy first at a public place.

I always did a cursory check (whatever I could find for free) online before meeting anyone, because I'm sure that any halfway intelligent person could track me down through my license plate. However, after a while, you can "read" a guy's comments and "read" his bio.

Here are some other thoughts:

ps

Something I forgot to add:

I think that meeting guys through online dating is easier in some parts of the country than in others. For example, if you're over 50 and you live in Southern California, there are so many young single "girls" that it's a tough dating market.

If you're willing to (possibly) relocate, try changing your zip code in your bio to someplace else, like Oregon or Montana or ?

At one point, I tried NYC, but I never actually met anyone from NY. Just be careful and it's no worse than going out on a blind date.

Goodness knows I'm no expert, but I don't think meeting people online is much different from meeting somebody at the grocery store. A stranger is a stranger. And years ago we didn't have the luxury of checking somebody out online before meeting them somewhere for coffee.

I do think the "old fashioned" way of meeting people (like at church, through friends, etc.) is the best, but that hasn't worked out for me.

I have met a number of people online. Dated a few. Became friends with a few. I'm still single, and probably always will be. But I DO know a number of people who have found their soul mates online.

In this day and time we have to be careful, but I think the internet has opened doors for many.
