EBAY experience

Well ladies I will soon be a bit richer then I am right now, the checks in the mail for the items that Kate (Bluebirds daughter) sold for me on Ebay. Of course I had hoped for mo money, mo money (LOL) but thy did sell with all her hard work and 'thats a good thing.' I would recommend Kate to any of you who have things to sell and just don't want all the hassle. Kate makes it hassle free! Thank you Kate....and Bluebird.

Wonderful, Chatty! Greg and I just love eBay and by now we
have made around 550 transactions over the past few years.
One thing that has worked for us is that we never mail the
item out until the check has cleared or the money has been
deposited in Paypal, which is usually the same or next day.

Today Greg bought a car part on eBay for far less than
retail. Love it!

Diamond, since you ar a pro, may I ask you something? My son is trying to sell his movie camera on Ebay. The first time someone bought it, he was thrilled. It went for 500.00 ove rthe asking price. It turned out to be a scam. They wanted him to ship it to Nigeria, said they had deposited money to Pay Pal twice, but never did. The second time it sold for 200.00 above his price and they also wanted him to ship to Nigeria, even though he said only for People in the US to bid. What's up with this Nigeria contingency? Now he has to post it again. Have you heard of this happening?

Well I'm no expert by any means with this EBAY stuff, but if it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck, its most probably a duck!!! NO ONE offers more than the asking price for anything unless its a "scam," why would they? Poor kid, that just stinks!

Congratulations Chatty. you must have had a fare price, or nothing goes at Ebay.

Well for my tastes the prices would have been much higher but Kate is the expert, and she kept them 'realistic' so they sold. I hope the buyers realize what bargains they got. The jury is still out as to whether I would do Ebay again however...I have tons of stuff too, collectible records, baseball memorabilia and Harley Davidson jewelry, belt buckles, fishing lures etc. Oh well, maybe this spring.

Dotsie, the "Nigerian Scheme" permeates alot of things having to do
with money. At one time I subbed as relay operator for deaf
people and they pretended to be deaf and order big ticket items
with stolen credit cards!

Back to your son, he CAN list the camera again, but he must stick
to the "only U.S. bidders." He can reject the bid. Also, as long
as the money is not deposited in Paypal, he loses nothing as long as
the camera is not shipped.

My husband said that the schemers are usually attracted to
expensive camera equipment etc, as it is easy for them
to turn it around and sell for profit.

As for reposting, it is commonly done due to reasons such as
no one was interested in the item the first go-around. It could
be that the original bid price was too high, too. Or just the wrong
timing.
Or reposting can be due to the final bidder not fulfilling
his or her part.

Most buyers and sellers will have no problem with eBay as long
as they follow the common-sense rules. And it is an immense help
and empowering to read all of eBay's helpful links for sellers
and buyers.

Ooh, I would like to sell an electric guitar on ebay so that I can afford a digital camera! I have an 2005 Austin Vintage Rock only used for a dozen lessons and is beautiful! I just don't have the talent! The guitar also has chrome hardware and ivory on the neck. I paid $399 plus $35.00 for the 20mm Padded Electric Gig Bag. Wonder if I'd get a good price?

In the click above, the auction for those Austins have several days to go
so the bids are still low. The bids in the last 30 minutes are the
most telling.
In the meanwhile, if I were you, I would study all the listings for
Austin guitars and also read all the eBay links available to sellers.

Dotsie, It's a money laundering thing. Someone got my stepson's credit card # and charged something via Pay Pal. His wife made some fast phone calls and tracked it to a woman who told them she was working for someone in another country. I think it was Nigeria too. The woman thought she had a part time job and was supposed to send money to Nigeria to this guy. When she told the woman it was credit card fraud and they would prosecute, the woman started talking. The whole scheme was money laundering.

As Chatty said, if someone is offering much more than something is worth, it's a red flag.

Louisa, so true. And on eBay, as you watch the bids go up,
they go up in small increments such as a few dollars at a time
or more if it is a big ticket item. But if it suddenly zooms
for no reason at all like in the scams above, RUN!

Yes, second time around was also a scam for sure. Now he will begin again. He's actually looking for womeone in town to buy it so he isn't disappointed again. He gets all excited when it sells, then disapponted when it's a scammer. Thanks for your help and that link.

Mustang, the best thing to do to see what kind of price you may get, is to go to ebay and do a search for the same item you have. If there is one on there, you will see what people are bidding. It's a good way to see what you should start the bid at and possibly, what reserve price you should set.
