Kitty - 11/01/05 02:45 AM

My kitty is, well, throwing up a lot lately. She eats Purina hairball formula (crunchy), she is 12 years old, yet the vet says she has nothing wrong w/ her and I'm tired of spending $$$ to hear that. This has been going on for a year.

When I open a new bag of food, she loves it and will not vomit for a week or so. Yet, after the bag is "old" (even though it is sealed) she begins to vomit. She simply eats, and as soon as I leave the room, she does this, then goes on as if nothing has happened.

So, I ask how may I remedy this? Place her food in a tupperware type container? Move her food bowl to another location (presently on shelve in laundry room to keep dog away and she has to jump up to eat).

I've also tried supplements like kitty snacks for hairballs, yet this makes it worse.

I'm open to all suggestions! Thx.

Humm, perplexing. How about buying smaller bags of food so it seems newer longer or opening it up and as you say, put it into tupperware containers keeping it fresh longer. I have to admit I have never heard of this before. could something be getting into the food like dust or maybe something from the laundry? Try moving the bowl somewhere else like the kitchen counter.

I don't know if this is any help, because we had something of the same problem with our puppy. But it may be worth a shot!
Cookie was throwing up from eating crunchy food--
we mix abit of canned food in so she will take longer in eating it.
Could it be because of age & maybe you have to change the type of food?
Hope you find a solution soon!!! [Smile]

Did the Vet do an X-Ray?

Re: Kitty - 11/02/05 07:03 PM

Dianne, no X-ray was taken, he just "felt" around. Sometimes it seems she is starving, so upon feeding she eats very rapidly and then Ralphs! So, I'm going to try to keep her bowl full so that she does not gorge herself and try this for a week.

When my cat got so sick, they finally X-Rayed her at my urging. That's when they found the problem. How is your cat's blood work?

In my pet-owning experience, it's not uncommon for cats to throw up right after they eat, especially if they wolfed the food down. I think there may be a physiological reason for this, but I can't remember what it is.

Mustang what the latest on your kitty? Is what you are trying doing the trick?

Is she acting starved even when she recently ate? That would seem to be a symptom of something.

Re: Kitty - 11/07/05 01:31 AM

Have her checked for tape worms....similar symptoms. Something is happening from the time she eats and the time the food is or is not being digested. Get a second opinion, vets are a lot like doctors, some are good and some are lousy....

One of my cats is having a similar problem. She doesn't throw up but she seems like she's starving all the time.

I didn't want to cover this topic but something really bizarre is going on. When my daughter calls me on the phone, Sammie starts calling her name. Now, how does this crazy bird know that it's her? She doesn't call her name at other times unless she's home. [Confused]

ANIMALS ARE PSYCHIC and yes I am yelling loudly. Plus she hears the love in your voice that is reserved for your daughter. It is a proven FACT that each of us has a different sound in our voices when dealing with each and every loved one. Sammie recognizes the tone/sound you use with your daughter...

I agree with that but she starts calling her name before I answer the phone!!!!! She doesn't do it with other phone calls so you're right. I have a talking, psychic bird on my hands.

Well I BELIEVE it!

They are surely psychic - they just know stuff we don't.....One day we'll get to Heaven and they'll say - "You didn't think I heard you when you were thinking, OMG it's time to take that---- dog out again? Or, "I'll just slip him this cheaper food and he'll never know" .

Ladies, take it for fact, they KNOW what we're thinking.....YIKES!

Dianne, what time of day does your daughter usually call? Is it the same time every day?

Do you have caller ID? If so, perhaps your body movements are different when answering her call and Sammie picks up on this inflection? Or your tone of voice? This is very interesting.

Re: Kitty - 11/08/05 10:27 PM

She calls at different times so that can't be it. I always look at caller id so I'm not sure I'm doing anything differently.

I watched a tv special on an African Grey and the owner swore the bird was psychic. So, they put her in one room and the bird in another as she looked at different pictures. The camera on the bird showed it talking, identifying the pictures she was looking at. It was wild!

Diane I saw that same show - that was really something wasn't it?

Re: Kitty - 11/10/05 05:15 AM

Hate to say it but this is one time God made a big mistake. The animals are smarter than we are, kinder, more in tune to their psychic selves and should be the ones in charge, not stupid, selfish, unpsychic humans. The only thing they do differently is speak and we barely understand what they are saying. Too bad too, the world would be a much better place.

I'm not sure I'd call Sammie kind. That girl has an attitude! She only lets one person hold her and it's me and even then, I have to honor her boundaries.

Re: Kitty - 11/11/05 08:08 AM

I have tired many foods and the best one is from Costco--no artificial colors or fillers. Everytime I change food--barff city--If you think you need hairball remedy, just buy that. I don't think the size of the bag or how long it has been open is the problem.

Re: Kitty - 01/06/06 02:57 AM

Okay, the "trick" seems to be working! I keep my kitty's food bowl full to prevent gorging. This way she believes her food will not deplete, thus it seems to alleviate vomitting by 75%. Also, I keep the dog kennel (he no longer uses it) in an extra bedroom and keep the kennel door ajar with a bed for her to use as a personal hiding place.

Re: Kitty - 01/06/06 05:10 AM

Hey 75% is really good so maybe you've found the problem after all. Good, hate to see an animal suffer....

Re: Kitty - 01/12/06 09:14 AM

would putting the cat food in the freezer help keep it fresh longer? just take a few days supply out at one time.
