Re: SAVE our HORSES - 04/12/09 10:17 PM

I know you said it didn't work. But, like a kid, I had to go and try it. Don't you find yourself wanting to do, what you're told
cannot be done?

Mustang,
I saw a TV special about horses and how some actress had purchased land and was using that acreage as a sanctuary for
wild horses. Yes; the person who started that "glue factory"
thing ought to be glued to a wall somewhere and left there forever.

Re: SAVE our HORSES - 04/15/09 01:09 AM

Jabber, our own government that once vowed to protect wild horses now wants to kill them. Generations ago these horses traveled and carried explorers, pulled wagons, fought battles, won and lost races, worked the land, carried children (our eternal ancestors), etc. There is over breeding, abuse, slaughtered race horses that no longer win, PMU foals, etc. I could go on and on . . .

Yet, there are rescue organizations and foundations, I think the below link may be that which you reference above:

Mustang,
That could be it. I can't remember where they were reporting from, or the name of the person who bought the land and turned it into a sanctuary. I do recall it involved thousands of acres; and remember thinking what a worthwhile project she had undertaken.

If I ever win the lottery, that's what I'd like to do with the
money: 1) Build an animal sanctuary for abused critters. 2)
Start a halfway house for unmarried women and their babies!
Wow, how cool that would be!

Holy Hannah! What do you think happened to all those polo ponies?
That's a lot of horse flesh to drop over in an instant. Geese.
Talk about sad!

I don't know if they've figured it out yet, but they will. That was an incredibly sad news story.

Re: SAVE our HORSES - 04/23/09 03:19 PM

21 Horses: That's a lot of horses. There are huge horse farms in this part of the State. They even have horse 'n carriage races down Main Street in the summer. I can't believe such a horrible thing happened! Security? Where's security? That's the first thing
I said when 9/11 happened. Where da heck is our national security?

I heard on the news last night, the pharmacy made a mistake
with the medication. Now isn't that real sweet?

Re: SAVE our HORSES - 04/25/09 12:42 AM

This is incredibly sad...I saw on the Jane Valez show tonight where they'd found a whole bunch of horses in a big 18 wheeler and if they had not rescued them they would have given birth to their fouls (is that the right term?) in the slaughter house. The horses look horribly thin and sick. Then they talked about how they kill the horses and I had to switch to something else...could not listen to it.

Re: SAVE our HORSES - 04/25/09 12:43 PM

The term is foals for baby horses. It's always heartbreaking to read stories of animal abuse and neglect, isn't it?

Re: SAVE our HORSES - 04/25/09 04:04 PM

Dee,
That's heartbreaking! I didn't hear that story. Just as well.
There is a young man trying to get clearance to put a slaughter
house here in the city. That whole process makes me wanna eat
lettuce!

Yes, its awful - I imagine a lawsuit will follow for this horrible pharmaceutical mistake - the cause of death was selenium poisening (overdosed).

You gals see those horses collide prior to The Kentucky Derby? Holy Hannah what a accident: That sent chills up 'n down my spine.

Re: SAVE our HORSES - 05/04/09 01:25 PM

That horse that won The Derby was a little speedster!
