STATIC HELP!

STATIC HELP! - 02/22/06 01:26 AM

Our new loft has so much static from the dry air. I have a huge pot of water simmering on the stove, running my humidifier day and night and even pulled out our clothes steamer and let it run and still, every time I touch something, I get shocked.

Do any of you have a remedy. This is awful.

I don't know if you're able to Dianne, but our heat pumps have a separate humidifying unit attached to it that dispenses moisture every time they are running.

You might want to check with a heating and airconditioning company and see if they can install one in your new home. It is a very small unit which is attached to the one furnace inside our home. Even though we have two furnaces this device works very well on just one.

Dianne, didn't you say your floors are concrete? I could see having all that static with carpets, but not with concrete. I wonder if you need to wear rubber soled shoes in the house? I don't think it's just from dryness. I live in a very dry climate and I don't get static shocks (I hate them!!!). Most of my house is carpeted, too. Hmmm... now I'm really confused.

I've been wearing rubber soled shoes today. I wore my UGGS earlier and was getting shocked so changed to tennis shoes.

I think I might have to call someone to put that unit on the heater. This is making me crazy. David went to put out a cigarette in the ashtray and the ashes flew to the sides of the ashtray like little magnets.

I would be finding out if the building was properly grounded. Could be a problem in a thunderstorm...

Okay, now I'm nervous! Gonna buy a static pad for the computer. It seems a little better today but then, it's warmer. A whopping 34 today.

Why don't you go to the building super...tell him your problem and ask him about the grounding... if it might be a issue or not.
He might even have a solution.

Sounds like you might be in a heat wave.

I spoke with the super and he said it's a combo of the very dry air, concrete floors and stainless steel counter tops. Gads. If I could ever get out of this loft and go somewhere, I might need those sunglasses but I still am dealing with a psycho dog. I'm getting cabin fever.

I was going to suggest asking some of the other tenants who have been there awhile, how they handled it. As I mentioned this morning, my friend said add lots of large leaf plants for the humidity to rise, she is in Minnesota too and said its what she did. I am smack in the center of the desert and its very dry but have never experienced any static. I do have natural wood floors though....

Re: STATIC HELP! - 02/23/06 07:45 PM

I lived in AZ and never felt air this dry!

Sad but we may be filing a law suit against the builder/realtors of this place. There is a very loud and strange noise coming from the roof and it starts around 4 AM and wakes us up. It continues on and off during the day. It sounds like a very bad wind storm outside.

They used our loft as one of their models and had to have known about it since they were here all day. Our neighbor is complaining about the same thing.

Dianne,
Sounds like a blower from a fan on the roof . Have they any idea what it ?

They have all the heating units, etc. up there. I understand that but not them keeping it from us.
