cross stitch pattern and photography question - 02/24/07 07:34 PM

Is it possible to have a photograph made into a cross stitch pattern. Any one know how to put me onto this? My daughter has a talent doing cross stitch and I thought it would be nice for her to do one of her son.
Thanks.

Chick, I just did a google search (cross stitch from photo) and found lots of sites. Here is one.

As much crosstitch as I've done, I've never done one from a photo. I know there are computer programs you can buy to convert your own scanned photos into crosstitch patterns. I see them advertised in the back of the crosstitch and craft magazines all the time. Also there are companies you can pay to create a pattern from one of your photos......I think that's what the link is that Anno gave you up above.
I checked at JoAnne Etc. online and found a computer program that will convert a photo to a pattern:
http://www.joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=54559&PRODID=57818&source=search
and that's only one of several.
Of course if you think you'd never use it again, it'd make more sense I guess to pay someone else to do it, than to struggle with trying to figure out the computer program....but if your daughter would get into using the program to create patterns it might be worth the $$$$.

Yes, I've done this several times, although it was many years ago. I did my parents' wedding photo for a 50th anniversary gift, my in-law's wedding photo, and another wedding photo of a friend's daughter. I used The Stitchery for the kit, and it was a fairly simple procedure. You send in the photo and in a few weeks they send back the kit with the required floss and a chart and pattern for a counted cross stich project (not stamped). You can order full color, black and white or sepia toned.
I checked out their website and they appear to still be selling the product. I can highly recommend the quality.

I didn't google online because I wanted to hear from ladies who had experience with this and you came through for me.

I am going to email the links to my daughter. Thank you for all your help.
