Renaissance Faire booth decor needed! - 10/10/06 10:39 PM

We've never done a Renaissance Faire and our booth needs to be decorated accordingly. Anyone got any ideas? The faire is Nov 3,4,5, so time is a runnin' short.

I have some white gauze I can drape in the background but not sure if it will do. our booth is white, 10x10. It will be outdoors.

HELP!!!!(please!)

Okay, Di. I'll throw in a bit based on my visit at a candle market stall in Stratford-Upon-Avon weekend last. So perhaps we have to think circa William Shakespeare here. Are you pitching your booth/stall in a tent? Whatever it may be, I remember purple was a predominant colour with gold, orange and other bright colours to contrast. Buntings all around. They also used burlap to cover the tables where they set their candles strewn with ornamental grapes and wreaths. Papier mache boxes and mirrors were additional decors. Will you need to dress up as well for this fete? I'll look at the photos we took and get back to you again. The stall owners were Goths-like so I might have to look at them very well.

Get or borrow a "cheerleader" megaphone and wrap it in crape paper or butcher paper (colored gold maybe) and then have scarfs handing out the end...like a princess would wear...Also, visit your local Dollar Store and pick up some rubber DINASOURS to sit around the candles.

I had a class on art history and this was one of the periods we studied. Think of knights, kings, queens, tapestries, statues, jousting and of course, Michaelangelo!
We also have a Renaissance Fair in Wisconsin in the summertime. They have lots of food like corn on the cob, chicken legs, ribs, anything you can eat with your hands. I remember they had like a Maypole and everyone danced around it. I can go back and look in my history books if you like. It is a very interesting period of time. I always wanted to be a princess!!!!

Di, I have just looked again at your site and if your booth is the same as the one in Las Cruces, you can put the bunting all around on the top with cutouts of castles, knights, jesters on each of it. Alternatively, you can also just have a rubber stamp made of these figures instead which you can use on the buntings and for future fetes. Then on each side of the booth, you can also have some huge cutout of some heraldry of sorts. Perhaps you can refer to medieval coat-of-arms for particular ones to copy.

More suggestions to follow if needed...and as they come.

You could also use a long drapery cord with tassels on it for a belt...JJ
