Vacationing in Vancouver

Vacationing in Vancouver - 08/09/06 09:29 AM

Has anybody been to Vancouver here? Hubby and I plan a four week RV vacation in and around Vancouver this September. I've started to pack mosquito spray...I wonder if that works on the Grizzlies? I'm bringing an empty suitcase. We plan to go to a patchwork blanket fair...and I know I won't be able to resist. We are pretty excited. The flight from Germany is 13 hours... I plan to bring my Boomer books with me!

I haven't but next year I'm thinking my "bigee" will be to go somewhere like that. It looks so beautiful. I can't wait to hear about your trip.

I LOVE Vancouver!!! Lots of food and culture and great mild weather! Canadians are super nice people, too.

I'm counting the days, Meredith. We are sooo excited; although that terrorist episode in London did a number on our nerves.

This morning they announced that the London airport is closed to all incoming flights as well. It's crazy. Not only vacationers, but business people and families must be at their wits end. I have no idea what happens, if our flight were to be canceled, I suppose the whole vacation is ruined. I bet we wouldn't get a penny back. We've been saving for this vacation for the last five years. Oh man, I don't even want to think about it.

Of course it's good that the airlines are taking such precautions. It's just so terrible that these things are even happening. Well we just got to wait and hope that the Muenich airport won't be closed down too.

Hannelore,

Everyone I know who has gone there says it is just beautiful. I'm planning on getting up there in the next year or so - you'll have to give us a detailed report.

mosquito spray for bears, probably not - but bear spray MIGHT work on their "monster mosquitos"! lOl!

Leave the spray at home, nothing liquid allowed on planes now and I mean nothing! Just throw some stuff in a plastic, see through bag and head to the airport. I simply love traveling in an RV. Going to out of the way places and buying way too much stuff, but remember the same rules apply flying home so you may have to ship whatever you buy....A pain but better safe than sorry I suppose.

Hannelore, hopefully all of this airport and flying mess will be over before you take off.

I read lots of articles about boomers online and not too long ago there were a bunch of them about boomers and RV travel. Apparently it is a bug choice among our generation. Check out this link for some helpful tips:

Liquids and gels are allowed in checked bags - just not in carry on bags.

And despite the rumor - you MAY carry a purse onboard the aircraft with you (and an extra carry on) still.

But, are you allowed to carry your lipstick?
Have a wonderful trip. The weather in Vancouver is beautiful this time of year.
