Pics from our little cruise - 09/28/08 03:53 PM

Hi guys!
Just got back Friday from a little cruise with my best friend and her husband. Heidi and I both turned 50 this year, so we had planned to do something special and chose this little getaway cruise to celebrate.

It left from LA and visited San Diego, Catalina, and Ensenada. We've been to all those places, but it was convenient and affordable - a great little escape!

Here's a pic of all of us overlooking the Bay at Catalina Island. This is a tiny little island just 75 miles off the coast of California.

And here's a great view of the bay itself, with the cruise ship in the distance.

A photo of yours truly, sipping a drink by the pool!

When we were on Catalina, we rented a little golf cart to drive all over town. This is Heidi and Rick:

This little cart helped us discover a hidden beach. It used to be private, but they opened it up to the public recently. It had a little beachside bar, music, and it was like a little Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville paradise!

Back on the boat, the guys were watching the USC game on Thursday night (they lost) so I went and played at the casino. You know me, right? I won!! It was a Wheel of Fortune machine and I won $500 on the spin wheel. Cool, huh? That helped pay for all the drinks and other extras on the cruise.

On Thursday, we went to Ensenada, Mexico. Dan and I went there for our honeymoon 25 years ago. We visited Hussongs Cantina; back then it was THE hopping place to be. Now it's a little run down and kind of scary...

We had drinks and snacks at a different bar, and this man came around with his cart making fresh guacamole. It was fantastic!

The last night of the cruise, we surprised Heidi with a little birthday celebration at dinner. (her birthday is Oct. 1). Heidi and I have known each other for 46 years, and she's the BEST friend anyone could ever have.

It was a fun little escape, but now it's time to get back to work. Need to save some money for my next trip!

Orchid, the people who went were me and my husband, and Heidi with her husband.

AdornmentsMilani, I was tanned! I did a spray tan the day before we left, just so they wouldn't have too much glare from my legs on the pool deck. smile

There she is again with her hand out collecting the moolah! YOu go girl. Seems I've witnessed that in person before. There she sits AGAIN with a grin on her face and money in her hand!

Your photos really made me smile. I know you realize how blessed you are to have known Heidi all those years, AND to have the hubbies get along too. Totally fun!

Sandpiper,
I don't get the happy birthday thing in your post. DD's birthday
looks to be in January and your is in November? Did I miss something?

I've been wondering if any boomers have a particular spot where
they like to vacation? What's your favorite getaway location?
Perhaps, we can discover new landmark attractions.

I mentioned that Heidi's birthday was October 1, and that we were celebrating our 50th year, so she probably thought it was near my birthday as well.

I prefer vacationing somewhere warm, near the water. Mmmmm....preferably with a hammock and a good book!

Re: Pics from our little cruise - 10/02/08 01:56 PM

DD,
Okay, I understand. I love the water, too. What is there about the sound of the ocean hitting the shore, that's so soothing?
It's like the sound of a faraway train whistle. That's soothing
as well. And I often wonder why. Does it make a person think of
Godly creation. Or is it the enormity of creation itself? I don't do hammocks very well. Generally, I just fall out of them.
But water. I love the water. By the way, Myrtle Beach is a cool
place to visit. I like boats and cruises, etc. but hubby gets
seasick, so they're not an option for me.
