Katie Couric - 04/12/06 12:55 AM

What does everyone think of Katie's move to CBS?

I rarely watch the Today Show, but I can't imagine it without her.

Re: Katie Couric - 04/12/06 02:03 AM

She's already looking more like a news anchor. Gearing up for the role I guess.

She's smart. She knows a good career move. And, the Today Show's ratings are dropping so it's probably a good choice.

We actually had dinner with her one evening. She was the speaker at a conference and sat at our table the night before. I can't tell you how nice she is. Truly a loving woman.

Re: Katie Couric - 04/12/06 02:06 AM

Well she has never proved herself as anything but a fluff reporter/interviewer to the stars and hostess, good at that I grant you but she'll have to go some to prove she has earned this new job. Actualy the woman taking her place, Meredith has more actual news reporting experience than Katie. Should prove interesting to see how and if she can handle the job.

I just want to know why she's worth so much money?
Why are all these sports people worth so much money? WHY????
Just curious.

Re: Katie Couric - 04/12/06 06:43 AM

I watch the Today Show every morning while getting ready for work. I have to admit, I will miss Katie. I know there are rumors that she is not so nice to her staff and that she and Matt don't really get along, but I just don't see that on the camera. She may be rich, but has had lots of heartache in her life. All that money doesn't take away the pain she and her family had to endure. I wish her happiness.

Lynn, I'm with you on the money issue. When did all of this get so out of hand? I was shocked to hear how much she made and will make.

The same goes for homes. Since when are home priced in the millions? How did that happen?

I guess it's all about demand.

Katie is tight with her money, no matter how much she makes. She shops at Target!

Re: Katie Couric - 04/12/06 11:31 PM

Hey, I say more power to her. If they can pay football and baseball players the ridiculous salaries they do, why not her? Or better yet, ME?

If we had to list the TOP 10 THINGS THAT HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF HAND over the past years, what would you list? Here's my contribution:

1. Gas Prices
2. Sports Salaries
3. New Car Prices
4. New Home Prices
5. HEALTH CARE (includes doctors, hospitals, operations, etc.)
6. Clothing
7. Lawn Mowers
8. Movie Theaters going (includes food)
9. Education (colleges)
10. Food

Did I cover it girls? What did I leave out? Please add, subtract, whatever.

Same over here jawjaw, that's a good list. I'm not too sure about the price of lawn mowers but all others you mentioned have certainly gone over the top price wise!!

What's it cost for a movie ticket where you are. Cheap night $6.50 here but $9.50 - $13.00 other times.

Re: Katie Couric - 04/13/06 02:26 AM

Well I had to purchase a new 40 gallon water heater today and it cost nearly $600. with labor. I remember when I was a kid my dad always took care of all that household repair stuff for next to nothing. I was told the water heaters are sooo expensive now because they are made in (READY FOR THIS???) made in China and our plumbers need special wrenches costing $150.00 each....Good old American know how seems to be no more....Oh and while we're at it,
NO stinkng sports figure or news anchor or movie star is worth over a million dollars let alone what they are paid now..... [Roll Eyes] [Mad] [Eek!]

Re: Katie Couric - 04/13/06 02:55 AM

well the today show has always been my show in the morning. i like the chemistry katie & matt have, even if it happens to be all for show...i think meredith will be quite capable of filling her shoes...i think alot of katie's appeal came from her just being so damn cute & perky when she first came on the show & willingness to give the BS right back to that Gumbel character, plus the tragedy that everyone watched her go through. she may be somewhat of a fluff reporter but given the chance, i think she'll do well. worth all the money? thats another subject entirely

Re: Katie Couric - 04/13/06 04:51 AM

Is cute and perky really worth 20 million a year for anybody, I think not. You could feed the entire worlds poor population with half that amount....shops target my patute!!!

Re: Katie Couric - 04/13/06 05:21 AM

Imagine what advertising on a station that pays that much for cute and perky adds to the cost of goods sold. I could do a lot MORE target shopping if I weren't paying all those advertising dollars.

But I guess somebody's gotta' do it. If not her then it might be someone not even as likeable. However, I don't think she has very much hard news reporting experience at all and maybe that's one of the problems with the media. They don't hire qualified journalists so we get gossip instead of news.

The nanny is the one who shops target.

Katie is not my favorite morning show host, but maybe I'll like her better if she is more neutral.

No really, Katie shops at Target. She's known to be very tight with her money and still drives a very old Honda or some car like that. She's extremely frugal. Believe it or not, it's true.

Re: Katie Couric - 04/15/06 02:15 AM

I'm with you Chatty - I'm not overly fond of Katie. I think she's cute and perky, no doubt, but she's also very inappropriate at times. I realize morning news shows have to be entertaining but not down right comical! Perky doesn't sell me on the news. Granted, I am thrilled a Boomer woman is given this opportunity, but Katie? I enjoy a little humor injected on occasion but unless she's able to maintain the seriousness the nightly news deserves I'll switch channels!

I happen to like Bob Scheiffer and can't imagine her taking over for such a mature, respected news persona.

I do enjoy watching Katie on the morning show. What a great example to all of us for the success she has earned. Yeah, she can be perky and entertaining so but are lots of men, and I am hopeful she be as successful on the evening news.

Personally I don't mind Katie Couric. It's always a plus when a boomer gal gets ahead, IMO. I want to see far more women moving up and beyond where they are now. I hope she does really well and is a credit to all of us boomer gals.

Re: Katie Couric - 05/03/06 03:05 AM

I'm inclined to toss my hat in the ring with Maggie and the rest. Go Katie!

To me the debate shouldn't be whether or not she's qualified, but whether or not things have gotten out of control with salaries to celebrities, TV personalities, atheletics, etc...when our men and women put in harms way every day are making barely above minimum wage! Fireman....policemen and women! Military!

These people put their very lives on the line EVERY DAY.

I say bless Katie's heart if she can get it, and more power to her....but I would have a hard time looking a fireman or policeman/woman in the face and saying she was worth it. (Queen stepping down from soapbox)

Re: Katie Couric - 05/03/06 04:42 AM

For what it's worth, I can't stand Katie Couric. I did a small blog entry about her a while ago. She gave an interview in More magazine (I think) in which she stated the one thing she wanted in the world is to spend more time with her daughters. For what she's already made, I say retire and really be the best Mom you can for the few years you have them. She's proved to me she's in it for the fame and fortune. Plus she's way too conservative for me, I'm a Socialist and not afraid to admit it. Talk about being a minority, lol!

Re: Katie Couric - 05/03/06 04:50 AM

PS, a note of trivia, Meridith Viera is a RI hometown girl so I'm rooting for her. Plus Matt was on the same local NBC affliate as she was but not at the same time. Having both spent time in RI, I think they'll have a common bond that will show on camera. Should be good.

peace,
Susan
