I'm not really looking for the new craze of the year, the TMX Elmo...but if it popped up in front of me, I guess I would buy it for Katie! She is way too young for it (she'll only be 7 months at Christmas) but this reminds me so much of the Cabbage Patch era when my girls were young. I stood on many a line for those dollies and now they lay naked in my attic!!

Take the Cabbage Patch dolls to the doll shop and have them cleaned and redressed for Katie. They would make great toys for her to grow into and would be cheaper than buying this Elmo character. I loved the fat faces on those cabbage patch dolls.

Oh gosh. What a hott. Remember all the toys that you had a hard time getting for the holidays? I'm glad I'm beyond that. But I guess it begins again with grandchildren, huh?

We could all help one antoher out here. If anyone wants an Elmo, or other toy, post it and if I see it, I could buy it and mail it to you.

Speaking of Elmo, I remember when my son was about three years old and there was a KCET drive for money for Sesame Street and other public television.

If you pledged $50, they would send you an Elmo. This was a plain old red Elmo, no techy stuff back then. My son saw this and just couldn't understand why he couldn't have that Elmo. That was about 17 years ago, so $50 wasn't chump change. He never got that Elmo.

Television and advertising sure build the hype for the big sales, don't they? And our kids fall for it, and our parents fall for it, etc. Not that the stuff you buy, like this TMX Elmo isn't cute or whatever, but it's just an example of the power of advertising and demand.

Hope you all get the special things you want!

Kathy, you are so right. And those advertisers sure do everything they can to attract the kids a couple months before Christmas. I'm glad we are beyond that.

I recall a year where there was a specific game for their system that was hard to find. I remember going to Best Buy several mornings in a row because every day they told me it was coming on the next truck.
