(no bake) Popcorn Cake

Here is one for the kids and the kid in all of us...

Bag of kernel free Popcorn (if available)
Large bag of M&M's
Large bag of marshmellows
Stick & 1/2 of butter
Tsp. vanilla
Bake in Angel Food cake pan (any kind is okay)

Pop the corn and set aside in a deep bowl...
Melt the butter and slowly stir in the marshmellows...when completely melted pour over the popcorn...Add the vanilla and M&M's..
mixing thoroughly and quickly..
Place entire mixture into pan and press down firmly (very hard press down) do this quickly as mixture hardens very fast...
Let sit in fridge for a half hour and cut and serve...

You can also take the well blended mixture and roll into small balls, place on cookie sheet and put into fridge till hardened.
These also make nice gift basket stuffers wrapped in colored celophane.

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/11/05 06:17 AM

They do sell it in gourmet stores but its just something a bit extra where as regular popcorn works just as well. I find Orville Redinbocker the best, less pesky kernels....

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/11/05 07:25 AM

I made it tonight...my first "baking" of the season (rotfpmp)....it is excellent and sooo easy to make. Salt and choc....how could one possibly go wrong!

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/11/05 07:27 PM

Chatty, I have this recipe and remember making it with my kids for a dessert one Thanksgiving. It was a real crowd pleaser. I recommend it for anyone with litle children or grandchildren. It's fun to eat too. You just hold a piece in your hand and crunch away.

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/11/05 10:14 PM

Hold your breath folks. I'm going to do this today. Since I could screw up a two-car funeral, chances are I'll just end up making a mess, but I'm gonna give it the old college try...

What the heck is a angel food cake pan?

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/12/05 05:16 AM

One of the round deep cake pans with the center tube in it. Oh. shoot go to the store and look at an Angel Food cake my dear Queen. You can use any kind of a pan but the Angel food pan makes it look more like a cake....I am thrilled you all like this so much, it is so tasty and such fun and sooooo easy!

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/12/05 05:29 AM

I think I'm going to make the popcorn balls. I think they'd be prettier and then you could give them to different people. I may make them for my 3rd. grader's class party. BTW - the note that came home actually said Christmas party!! Guess our school is not so PC. Praise the Lord!!

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/15/05 04:47 AM

I brought this subject back up to the top to thank Chatty for posting it - I made these today and they were FABULOUS! Actually I realized just as I was ready to put everything together that I'd bought the WRONG type of M&Ms....I just grabbed a "large bag" but when I got home they were PEANUT M&Ms...they turned out just fine and were delicious with the nut addition. Didn't use the WHOLE bag though because the peanut M&Ms are bigger than regular.

DELISH! Thanks again Chatty for another winner..... [Razz] [Razz]

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/22/05 04:15 AM

So Jaw Jaw how did the popcorn cake come out for you? I bet I've made 8 so far this year for friends. Its just too simple not too...

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/22/05 06:21 PM

Actually, my sister called the day I was making them to discuss the family's Christmas dinner menu. She asked me to wait and make them for Christmas, for the kiddies, and so I won't be making them till Saturday. Dang it. Course I guess this is a good thing, because you know who would have eaten them all if I had made them earlier. I'll let you know. I intend to make them into balls since we have about 20 small children there.

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/25/05 02:09 AM

Here is my recipe I've made for years for cheese potatos. My family would not let me in if I didn't make them for Christmas every year. I'd like to try something else, but Nooooo - they insist on the cheese potatoes!

Boil 10 med potatoes with skin on, peel and grate

In a pan combine 1 Cup Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, 1 Cup Milk, 1 Cup Whipping Creme and a pinch of Powdered Mustard. Cook on low until the cheese is melted. Mix with potatoes. Bake in a pan for about 45 minutes until hot.

As you can see, this is not a diet dish, which is why I only make it once per year.

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/25/05 02:47 AM

Here's another potato recipe that someone might like. It's something I made up and I never use a recipe so bear with me.

Cook a few potatoes in freezer bags in the microwave with the skins on until the potatoes are soft. Then cut them up skin and all in a large baking dish. Fry some bacon and stir the drippings into the potatoes. Add salt and sour cream to taste. Kind of stir around until they are mushy with a few small potato pieces. Add cut up green onions to give it some color and taste.

When the mixture tastes really good, sprinkle bacon bits and grate some cheese on top then put it in the oven until the cheese is slightly brown then serve and EAT.

YUM

Re: (no bake) Popcorn Cake - 12/25/05 02:55 AM

Here's another nobake recipe.

Crush up about one packet of honey graham crackers (Never use the premade crusts). Add about two tablespoons of plain sugar and three of brown sugar and mix with enough real butter to make a crust, preferrably in a pretty Christmas dish. (The key is the crust)

Then beat up about one package of cream cheese with about 3/4 cup powdered sugar (or til it tastes good). Spread that into the crust then spread a can of prepared cherry pie filling (don't go wrong and get plain cherries--make sure it's the cherry pie filling). Then add chopped nuts to completely cover the cherries and prepare a package of dream whip and put that on top. Add a couple of marachino cherries to make it pretty and EAT.

I used peanut M&Ms and made it in a tube pan. You need a very sharp knife to serve. Boy is it good.
