BWS Cook Book

BWS Cook Book - 12/03/05 12:54 AM

Hey!

How about putting together a BWS cookbook? [Big Grin]

There are a number of publishers out there. Fundcraft Publishers is one that a group of us used about 5 years ago to publish a cookbook for a fundraiser when we lived in Mexico. It turned out great! We sold 800 the first go around and had to order more. I don't recall what the profit was on each book but I think it was at least $5.00

We raised funds to build a community center where numerous functions were held and it was also used for church services.
We've lost touch with a lot of the people who contributed recipes but each time I prepare a dish from the book many great memories come flooding back.

We could sell the books and have part of the proceeds go to a charity, breast cancer foundation, diabetes research etc. And Dotsie could go on Oprah or Dr. Phils show and promote it!

With all of the talent on this forum I'm sure we could put together quite a book!

Just a thought

Great thought. Let me mull this over a bit. I just talked with my literary agent today. Hmmm...

I just found this post and I think a BWS cookbook would be fabulous. Many cookbooks from groups have been wildly successful.

One of the groups I was in used Morris Press for their publisher. It was great. I'd be happy to help out if we do this.

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/27/06 09:11 PM

A while back, we made plans for a cookbook to include NUDE photos of all the boomer contributors.

Yessirree. A little boomer nudity would certainly add spice, right JJ?

Eventually plans evolved for a cross country boomer tour with the chippendale dancers driving the bus and JJ interviewing them while they sat on MY lap.

After some thought, we decided to avoid the whole dieting and exercise fiasco by putting our faces on the bodies of Jesica Simpson, Tina Turner, etc.

Oh yeah!! We were going to add a few recipes. Heck, Chippendale dancers would inspire anyone to COOK!!

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/28/06 05:10 AM

Yea but the way we cook with a chippendale Smile should not be the subject of any book let alone have pictures. We'd have to call it: The Ballen Boomer Girls....yikes!

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/28/06 05:25 AM

I was thinking that we could call it "Chip'n Dip" and fill it with yummy appetizer dishes...

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/28/06 05:36 AM

I think a bookbook is a wonderful idea . We could put my easy chicken pot pie in there and a lot of wonderful recipes these girls have made , sound wonderful to me. We can call the Cook book "Lets Eat".

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/28/06 07:51 AM

But if we have nude photos and the chips, we can call it The Look book Cookbook, Feel the Heat!!

That oughtta' get us some customers.

smile

P.S. JJ Where are you when I need you??

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/28/06 10:11 AM

I was thinking "nude photos????"!!! But those have a way of 'popping up' when you least expect or want them to. But hey, as long as we can paste our faces on a perfect body.....why not?? I'll try anything once. Do we get to cook in the nude, also? Can I wear my apron? Good thing we're talking about women cooking in the nude--I saw what happened to Mrs. Doubtfire when 'she' caught 'her' boobs on fire! I bet that hurt! ha ha

Re: BWS Cook Book - 01/28/06 10:17 AM

It would take a man dressed as a woman to not know where his chest was in relation to the fire on the stove. (seem to have left that out of the previous post)
Can we have Manly Stew as one of the recipes? Or how about Headhunter Medley? How about Humble Pie? Shrew Stew? (just my twisted sense of humor)
(oh, come on...it wasn't That Bad.)

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/01/06 06:45 AM

We should have a contest and vote on the best name for our cook book and the winner gets a gift card or a free cookbook when printed any other ideas . Just some thoughts . I love cookbooks and cook a lot . In fact I have a wonderful recipe for Mac and Cheese .

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/01/06 08:44 AM

I just had a brain flash. I suddenly remembered it was not a Cookbook we were going to do with the chippendales. It was a calendar. We were going to do it like the movie Claendar Girls only better.

However, I'm sure a boomer/chippendale cookbook would be excellent as well.

Whooeee!! I'm really getting into this now. Just thinking chips is giving me a Julia Child moment!! I think I may be a COOK!!!

Yessiree, as the reigning champion of reheating, I say we get the chips. Shucks, let's do a whole ENCYCLOPEDIA.

Forget the food. Send in the chips.

Down girl! down! Holy Moly, I go away for a few days and come back to hormone city.

Now...let's get some order back in here, shall we? I'll order the cameras, SMILES you order the male models, Kidogo, you or----what? Ohhhhh alright, we'll quit.

But hey, a cookbook IS a great idea! BOOMER BUNS? The Best of Boomer Babes? Hot off the Hormones?

I refuse to even dignify any of this dribble by commenting, sheesh! To think of dirtying up any of my fabulous dishes with Chippendale bare bottoms tweeking about the kitchen, or boomer boobies flopping along the bread boards of my baking table. Not to mention cracking up if one of us falls down. Brings new meaning to the term, "butter your rolls." My Lord, ladies have thee no shame?

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/02/06 05:30 AM

Chatty, you're so cute. I particularly enjoyed the imagery of Boomer boobies flopping all over the bread board...it didn't do anything for my appetite, but it did make me laugh!

Ok, now if you all get serious about this BWS cookbook, [Wink] let me know. I remember a time when I set out to write my own cookbook. That was long ago. [Big Grin]

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/03/06 04:14 AM

I have and it was more fun than getting dirty. I can tell you it is a delight coming up with different ways to showcase a cookbook. There is bound to be SOME way that hasn't been thought of yet, and hasn't saturated the marketplace. Girls....let's put our thinking caps on and come up with one. Who's in? And I'm with Songbird...seriously!

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/03/06 07:02 PM

So, would it be a cookbook with recipes from the women on this site and NABBW? If so, shouldn't it go with the theme on the main page of the site? Just a thought.

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/03/06 11:48 PM

I can't find where we were talking about comfort foods but I just thought of another one! I opened my bread drawer and there were so many end pieces and dried out bread and rolls, that I was inspired to make some bread pudding. I always just wing it - no recipe, and this time I added peaches. It's warm and mushy and yummy!!

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/04/06 01:26 AM

Bluebird,
I love bread pudding . So, how did you make it with the can peaches . I don't like raisins in the bread pudding I think it takes the flavor away .

Can you post it or send me a message Please !

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/04/06 04:43 AM

Like I said, I don't measure anything. I heat up some milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and butter.
I add a beaten egg and then pour the whole mixture over the bread. I make sure it's very wet (it will all get absorbed). I just cut up a small can of peaches and added that. I butter the pan and bake it at 350 for about 20 - 30 minutes. It's hard to have a regular recipe as the amount of the other ingredients depends on how much bread I've got.

I've also made it with sweetened cranberries! Very good! I don't like it with the raisins either.

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/06/06 08:51 AM

Something different in a cookbook huh? Let me think...
Ok, someone call Oprah and give her dibs on a full page ad for the 'hottest' selling cookbook on the market called...."Now you're cooking."
We can dedicate it in memory of boomers who have gone before us...Each life is a miracle that changes the world and leaves it a better place...
We can include our favorite or 'own' inspiration at the end of our recipe, right next to our website/blog/book...etc.
All proceeds go to what else, promoting world peace.
Pick it apart, add on, take off, include, exclude, agree, disagree and see if we can't make this a "joint venture". I say it's about time. Count me in...twice.

Re: BWS Cook Book - 02/05/06 09:51 PM

Personally I prefer hunky (guys) over lumpy (gravy) and I say if we want to really get inspired, we need some pictures. (And I don't mean of biscuits.)

Since we all are out to save the world and just in case one of us goes to Miss America and has to say we did something for world peace, I say we use pictures of the hunky volunteer firemen who are saving lives all over the southwest. We could also use some pictures of the hunky heroes who saved lives in New Orleans. We could raise money for new rescue equipment or R&R.

As to inspiration, there ain't much that inspires a woman with a hot flash like a great set of abs.
