Colossians 1:15-17

The Apostle Paul wrote of Jesus Christ in a letter to believers at the 1st century church in Colosse:

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

This is one of the boldest declarations of Jesus Christ’s co-creator role with God from the beginning. This is among the boldest statements of the sovereignty of Jesus Christ along with God our Father. This really surprised my husband and me when we studied the Bible deeply in our 40’s. These points had not been emphasized, or at least had not filtered through to me in my Methodist upbringing nor to my husband in his Catholic childhood plus twelve years of parochial school.

Redda, welcome friend. Yesterday I attended an open house. The scene was one of stepping back in time as the home was over 150 years old. A friend of mine had purchased it last summer and filled it with her beautiful antiques and period furniture. I was in heaven. The background music for the open house was a harpist playing live, sitting in an alchove where the sun filtered in light thru a stained glass window onto the harp. I was spellbound! Before I saw the harpist, I remember walking from room to room and thinking "Oh Donna has beautiful taste in background music."

Imagine my surprise when I rounded the corner and saw the woman sitting there playing. It was magical!

Redda - welcome to the forum! I'm also a harp music aficionado....we had a harpiest in the church at our wedding and she played music while people were arriving/being seated and of course for me as my Dad escorted me down the aisle. VERY VERY special (and peaceful) music - the harp has always been one of my favorite instruments.

Hope you enjoy getting to know all of us here - we are a diverse bunch! [Big Grin]

Redda, thanks for sharing. Welcome! You mentioned not realizing the power of those words in your youth or your husband's 12 years in parochial school. I can totally relate. My ears and heart weren't open to the mystical words of scripture as a child either. I attended 13 years of Catholic school and didn't hear the gospel. It wasn't until I experienced much pain that I began to take it all in. Everything's in God's perfect timing.
