Here's one,

Cocoon

Sack of ashes, hanging dry
Bound with silken threads
Rasping sound of blowing sand
Heavy heart of darkened lead.
Sunken eyes are frantic now,
Gagged and tied, and tossed about
Struggles with the beast that hides.
From a stale and dismal cell
Bursting free, when time arrives
Falling light on untried wings
Glides upon the rising tide
Blinded by the fire of spring-
Lights upon a blade of grass
Tingles with the breath inside,
Lives awhile, and then it dies.

Time is Fleeting...

"Time is fleeting and I'm not waiting to wear purple
Or red or kiwi or orange or magenta or any other color

I'll spend my time sitting under the sunflowers
while the mares snuffle my hair and kittens play in my lap

Today I'll take my knitting to the pasture
and chance a wet bottom when I sit on the ground
Samuel and Carly will nuzzle my pockets for treats of corn
while the other sheep bleat at their boldness

My needles will lie quietly as I watch birds float on unseen columns of wind
The barn swallows and goldfinches and robins and even the buzzards will
bring me joy

Tonight at midnight, the dogs and I will walk in the pasture
I'll whisper secrets to the horses and sheep
I'll look for falling stars and the big and little dipper
and will nail Orion's belt with the north star

I'll drink good wine and strong beer and sweet water
I'll eat chocolate for breakfast and pastry for lunch
mix cream in my flavored coffee and
turn up my nose at powdered milk and ill-mannered people

Tomorrow I'll give compliments to perfect strangers
and speak to people on the street just
to watch their reactions as I grin at my silly self

I've worn hats for over thirty years and see no need to stop
I'll not waste happiness on tomorrow but spend it willy nilly today
Time is fleeting and I'm wearing purple now"

I second the part about chocolate for breakfast. [Razz]
I'm pretty sure that will be a law someday.

Back off guys, and let the women writers rule the world. Not that they'd want to. They're too smart to want the job!

Sandra what lovely prose about "fleeting life" - You've totally captured the essence of living life in the moment and exactly how we wish. Beautifully written.....you started my day off with a smile that I will carry with me for a long time!

Sandra, I believe you truly live life in the moment. How wonderful that you've found such peace. Thank you for that wonderful life lesson.

Kelly...it's a little known law now that we HAVE to start out day off with chocolate. What have you been thinking? Bacon and eggs??? NAW! Chocolate, woman, chocolate! Chocolate croissants to begin and then shear <chocolate> decadance from that point forward.

Pam...hope you're still smiling; God likes you better thataway <g>.

Ah Vicki - I *have* to live in the moment, my memory can't have it any other way. My daily prayer is "Please God, let it be menopause and not Alzheimers!"

We're getting rain, much needed and much wanted, rain today. My little garden patch is happy, happy, happy.

I love this! It was a if I watched you in the pasture so pure and peaceful. Good writing.

My girlfriend liked it too. Since she's a 'city' girl, I had to break a couple of things down like, 'willy nilly', LOL. Hope you didn't mind me sharing it with her. We had been discussing how the time is fleeting and then I opened this forum and found your fitting lovel prose.

What a gift you have ... I could see you in the pasture, your knitting needles ... the horses ... stars in a midnight sky. But I think what I liked most was the feel of this poem ... a woman who isn't going to waste one moment of life.

That's how I feel about my grandkids ... and the little hedgehog that lives in my yard ... and wildflowers ... (sigh) ... I guess you get the picture.

Excellent and so warm.

Blessings, Francine

It took me back to my horses and the wonderful smell of them. To watch them grazing in the front pasture and how curious they were if I'd sit under the big oak tree and slowly come over and sniff me.

I was lucky enough to be present when my mare gave birth, one rainy night. What a miracle. Just blew my mind.

I watched a movie last night with Jane Seymour called MY LIFE WITH WILD HORSES, what a wonderful movie and it's a true story. Theres a wonderful book out there about it with the same name. If I could I'd live on a horse farm in Kentucky with horses galore, dogs galore and a bird arboritum but thats just a dream... [Cool]
