Resolutions 2009 - 01/01/09 12:01 AM

I am putting this here not to cover any of the great posts on the forum. Plus everyone knows who won the last contest, old news. And if we make and keep resolutiuons we will all be winners.

1) I plan to walk everyday starting on January 1st. outside, and if the weather is bad, I will go to the mall or Wal*Mart, and walk there!

2) I will lose four pounds (or better) a month, giving me at least another loss of around 50 pounds.

3) This will be the hardest one of all~~~~~I will give up all breads, pastas and sugars, eating only good carbs. Getting my diabetes under control.

Thats about it for my resolutions. I am paying more attention to my own needs the new year. I bought a notebook to jot down each and every thing, everyday I do to keep my resolve.

What about some of you?

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/02/09 03:44 AM

I want to resolve to take things easy and really take things one day at a time. I want to simplify my life, and set aside more time for meditation and reflections. To keep an open mind to whatever happens and turn it into a positive!

Happy New Years!

Cheers,
Cathi

Hey Dee...I'm widya! No resolutions...living my passions, now that's another matter altogether!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/02/09 09:06 PM

Mama,
I like the idea of living your passions. I'm with you and Dee.
Don't have any resolutions. I've already given up booze, cigarettes and men. What else is there? Love that "I'm widy!"
stuff.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/03/09 02:42 PM

Chatty,
On second thought, I've changed my mind. I resolve to stop repeating myself on the bws forum. I keep harping on the same ole heartache. And I'm determined to stop that!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/03/09 06:51 PM

Oh Jabber, please don't stop repeating yourself (grin)...who knows when that tidbit of wisdom you share (multiple times) will strike just the right chord with someone and maybe they missed it somewhere else!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/03/09 10:52 PM

Jabber, your comments are a joy to behold whether repeated or not. I agree with MamaRed. The idea is to stop allowing those thoughts to invade your brain and mentioning them will cease automatically.

Mama Red & Chatty,
You ladies are a joy. You brighten my days and make living
much more easy to deal with! Love ya!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/04/09 11:19 PM

I resolve to be more sociable. I've been a bit of a recluse lately because of feeling tired all the time. And it's winter so the SADD kicks in. I'm back on my supplements so I'll be better once they kick in again. I was bad and stopped taking them - and I know better!!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/04/09 11:23 PM

I think if you have given up booze, cigarettes and men, you definitely need to eat MORE chocolate. I like dark chocolate with nuts. I have given up cigarettes (20 years ago), but not booze (I love a gin and tonic and a glass of wine), and have sort of given up on men, but not entirely. My options are open.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/05/09 01:48 AM

I'm in agreement with all you gals! Including dark chocolate. Although I don't drink, smoke, nor date, I'll decrease my Mountain Dew intake in an effort to lose weight and sleep deeper and peacefully.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/05/09 02:27 PM

cyclinggal,
I'm with you! Love chocolate! Love walnuts and cashews, too!
Cheese is another weakness. But if I give up all of these,
it'll take the joy out of living. So I ain't gonna do it!
Chocolate: Dark chocolate!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/05/09 07:34 PM

I love everything except bleu cheese and olives. Everythign else is game for me.

I've started an email diet with three friends so I'm hopeful I can lose a little weight.

Also registering to be involved with a mastermind group for professiinal reasons.

I love the declutter idea. I'm always working at decluttering. How is that possible? I guess I haven't mastered it yet.

Find someone to blame for not resolving my 2008 resolutions before I move on to 2009...

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/06/09 02:07 AM

Exactly why I'm NOT doing the things this year...I'm positively fabulous at finding things were I'm not perfect and so I decided to drop one of the reminders from my list (giggle).

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/06/09 01:25 PM

Dotsie,
You don't do blue cheese and olives? Shucks. Those are two of my favs. So you're learning to be a superior intellect? Hey?
Don't get too smart. The rest of us won't be able to understand
what you're talking about.

Jawjaw,
It's sooooooo good to read your post! I wondered where in the world you had gone. Your posts make my day! I don't know who
to blame either, for the stuff I can't overcome!

My 2009 New Year Resolutions:

Eat what I want, and as much as I want…
Surf and chat in internet till my fingers fall off
Spend money like there is no tomorrow
Party to the wee hours of the morning
Read all the books I've always wanted to read

Considering I never keep my New Year resolutions;…maybe this is the way to do it. Hah!

And paint until your paint's all gone?
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/07/09 11:10 PM

Thats the way to do it Edelweiss, but heck these are resolutions even I would be happy to KEEP!!!

After today I think maybe spending more time on other things and less on the computer would be best for me...Still trying to decide.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/09/09 03:19 PM

Ed3,
I like your list. If I made a list of all the things wrong with
me, it'd take at least a decade to resolve 'em.

Chatty,
I should spend less time posting and more time writing. But I've
just gotta mouth off! It's such a release! LOL...

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/09/09 04:27 PM

EW...you've got it going on, girl. You know, I find it amusing to see online how the "resolution" thing rears it's ugly head each Jan 1, then fades into oblivion until the next Jan 1...nobody seems to revisit it in between....thank God. LOL!

I think I want to adopt something that my mother has practiced all her life....do ONE good deed every single day for someone. At the end of the day, write it down. You think you will remember it, but you won't. She says it just helps you to do another one the next day when you see it in writing. How cool is that? She's such a sweetheart!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/09/09 06:19 PM

JJ, I love that idea. Can I steal it?
Posted by: chatty lady

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/09/09 11:31 PM

What a super idea JJ. I do try to do just that but you're right you forget from day to day what you have done.

I LOVE the Boxer avatar. Very regal looking... Move over Queen JJ, Queen Dolly Lama is taking over!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/10/09 03:23 AM

I know Chatty, isn't that cool? Why yes, Dots...you can steal it. I did...LOL! And THAT is my good deed for today. I "paid it forward."

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/10/09 02:37 PM

jawjaw,
You're too cool, girl. Love the avatar! Cute, cute, cute!
Momma had a great idea there! Still haven't watched "Pay It Forward"!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/10/09 03:13 PM

It seems easier to try to keep the inner changes rather than the outer changes...

That was, of course until I read Edelweiss resolutions. See I have always stuck to a resolution and I never knew I did that! How cool is that?

Cheers,
Cathi

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/11/09 05:40 PM

I am resolving to rid myself of 'negative thinking'!!! I talk about the glass as half full - but, worry about EVERYTHING....

I am taking a class at a Unity church entitled "Believe in Yourself, Trust in God" One of the first assignments is to smack the back of your hand each time you catch yourself with negative thoughts or words. Right now, my left hand is a just shy of beet red!! But, I'm beginning to see how often I let my first instincts go to the 'dark side.'

Just one resolution for me - but it covers a LOT of territory.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/11/09 05:47 PM

All of your resolutions are great. I try to be the best I can be every day. Some days are better than others; and it's so easy to get bogged down with day-to-day garbage. But I try to keep the attitude that every day is a new beginning to do better. Some days it's very hard to keep a positive attitude.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/11/09 09:03 PM

I am waiting but not so patiently fro Spring to get here. Its only January and I am tired of the bleakness of this season already! YUK!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/12/09 08:13 PM

I used to make resolutions and not keep them and I realized that I was setting myself up to fail. Now I try to be a better person every day. It doesn't always work but I keep trying. Sometimes I'm successful, which makes me feel good so I can be better tomorrow.

It finally got cool in Florida. Sweatpants and the heater on cool and I'm more productive in this weather. I can't live up north because it hurts my bones.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/13/09 04:45 PM

I haven't exercised, only dieted, and have lost a few pounds. I don't want to be exact becasue they can always come back in a few days, but I'm working hard, so I don't think that will happen.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/13/09 05:36 PM

I know exactly what you mean, Dotsie. I started South Beach a little over a week ago and did really well the first week, then went to the gym yesterday. So far, so good.

Keep going!!

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/13/09 09:08 PM

Glad to hear you're sticking with it. You've got to be svelt for those beches in Hawaii.

I'm determined not to gain this back, but sometimes it comes back even when trying to keep it off.

Anyone ever thrown a scale against the wall?

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/14/09 08:58 PM

You know, I've wondered if that was hard to do. What does she say about the workout? Is it hard to do? And is she a boomer-age woman? Or younger?

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/15/09 06:18 PM

JJ, what workout? Or are you talking about how hard it is to throw the scale against the wall?

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/16/09 09:19 PM

I resolve to try and see what we have in common more than how we are different. But I still appreciate differences just don't want them to be barriers.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/16/09 11:56 PM

What a lovely idea silvergirl, one we can all embrace, especially me! Welcome to a great goup of cyber gals.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/17/09 12:19 PM

silvergirl, welcome. Tell us about your screen name. Do you make jewelry?I like your first post. I believe we have more similarities than differences. I've read hundreds of stories written by boomer women form all over the world. They've been submitted for the Our Voices section of our site.

I'm always amazed by the similarities of women across the world. One that comes to mind was a story written by a gal in Australia who got pregnant at midlife, had just gotten her dream job, and didn't know what to do. She felt guilty becausse she had stayed home with her two boys who were in their teens when she became pregnant with her daughter.

Reading these forums is a testament to all we have in common.

Re: Resolutions 2009 - 01/18/09 02:39 PM

I agree, silvergirl. I think our cyber group has more in
common than in contrast. World over, people are people: We all face similar issues in life, whether they be good or bad. Welcome. Glad you joined in!

Very well said, Silvergirl...and welcome. It's so true that what you focus on, you get more of...I choose harmony.
