Mental Health - 01/09/03 01:39 AM

I am considering changing the title of this Forum to Mental Health. I believe more people would consider posting subjects such as: taking personal leave days, lavishing in the tub, checking in with their therapist, etc. We could learn from each other the best ways to care for ourselves. What do you think?

I agree with you. "Mental Health" has a positive spin, implying that you will be healthy and functioning well after the steps you take. Mental illness is really a continuum, with severe problems at one end, and the day-to- day stressors we all face at the other. Or maybe call the forum Mental Illness/Mental Health. Many of us deal with both on a regular basis!
I think it's good practice to include a positive, uplifting, energizing activity in some way every day. How to do that is the challenge with our busy lives!! A bath, soothing or energizing music, reading a good book, exercising, spending time with someone who energizes us, journaling, or some turn-off-the-brain things like shopping or working on a puzzle!

Funny how the english language can have so much power over us [Smile]

illness vs health -- as long as one is going through the mental health phase -- we all know just what to say to comfort and support

the mental illness phase - however - is someplace not many care to tread -- and yet it's the illness phase that needs the most support and prayers [Frown]

but since I'm a firm believer in the positive -- I think you should -- at the least --ADD a new topic of mental HEALTH [Smile]
