Hello - I'm new! + a question... - 10/18/12 03:34 PM

I recently joined NABBW and finally have the chance to jump into the conversation here on Boomer Women Speak. I look forward to hearing the thoughts of other Boomer Women on a number of issues & throwing my ideas into the mix!

I do have one question. When I was setting up my Personal Profile, I didn't understand how to add a photo. Seems a little more personal to me when we can see other, so if anyone has a clue about this, I'd appreciate it.

Here's to a glorious fall day and blessings to all!

Hi Marsha,

Welcome to the BWS forum, we're delighted to "meet" you here. As for your challenge with the avatar, I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to the forum.

But there are instructions on this in our FAQ. Here's what it specifically says about adding your image to your profile:

Quote:
In order to add an image to your message or your signature, you must have the image already available on a web server and reachable by a URL. This can be an image on your own personal web page, for example. To place an image within a message, simply use the following Markup Tag:

http://www.url_to_image.com/image_name.gif

For example, if you have an image called cateye.gif and its available from your own website at http://www.mywebsite.com/pics, then you would use the following image markup:

http://www.mywebsite.com/pics/cateye.gif

You can do the same for your signature. Click the My Home option found on any page. Then, under the Main Configuration heading, click on "Personal Information, email, password...". Look for the Signature box, and enter your desired information, including any images/markup as above.

Note: To keep the forums loading quickly for everyone, it is recommended that you do not exceed 35k for your image size. Please do not exceed 125 x 600 pixels and/or 35k for a signature image. This will ensure that the forums load quickly for all users.

So in other words, you can use the JPG image that you have on your website, and upload it using those instructions.

If that doesn't make sense to you, let me know and I am sure we can work something out to assist you.

Hey Anne, I tried and tried to upload a photo from my website. I even put a small version of the photo on one of the pages and changed it from jpg to gif. I typed in the URL in several different ways - when one didn't work, I tried another combination. All to no avail! I'm going to have to put it down & get some other stuff done, but if any tech people have another suggestion, I'd be happy to hear it! Thanks!
