A year ago I had a bone density scan. It said I had lost 10% of my bone mass. My doctor told me that walking would help stop the loss and may even help me re-gain the bone mass. So, I started a walking program. I didn't have to walk much, just do it every day. Now, a year later, I had another bone density scan. I've re-gained the 10% loss. Without taking those bone loss pills. Just regular calcium and walking every day.
It works. I have proof in my test results. If you're experiencing the same thing, try walking. It's low impact, easy, and only takes 20 minutes out of your day.

Vicki, what great news. I admire people who kick the habit instead of allowing a drug to do it for them. Ladies, she's also lost the most weight in the boomer diet forum.

Good information, Vicki. On good days I can walk, but many days I'm limited. I'll try more on my good days. Thanks.

Way to go, Vicki. I sometimes wish I had known as a youngster what I know now - I would have taken better care of myself!
Thanks, I couldn't believe that something so simple as walking would regenerate bone mass but it did.
Dotsie, I'm nearing the 70 lb mark. I'm having my website redesigned. I'll have new pictures on it. I'll make an announcement when it's ready for viewing.

Does anyone know some good natural products that work to increase bone density? I have osteopenia and my MD wants me to go on Fosamax. After researching the web, there is no way I'm going on that product. I walk the treadmill 6 days a week and go to gym to lift weights 3-4x week. I have been able to maintain within the osteopenia range for 7 years, but it has worsened a drop this year. Any suggestions?

Amy,
The food we eat is vitally important to preserving bone and keeping them flexible. Lots of fruits and veggies so we keep the acid/alkaline balance.
Glad you decided not to do the drugs as they may strengthen but the also make them inflexible which is the real danger when it comes to falls.
Take a look at this book--which I wish I'd written--it's comprehensive but easy to read on how to preserve bones and calcium.
