The South Beach Diet - 06/15/03 04:21 PM

Anyone read this book yet? I heard it is written by a cardiologist in Miami and reads easier than a typical diet book. What I heard about it sounded very much like the Atkin's diet...has to do with low carbs. Just curious?

Actually, I have read this book and have it at home if you want to borrow it. It is similar to the Atkins Diet, but not as rigid. You do not test your urine for ketosis for example. It is a good book with some great recipes that I have tried and enjoyed. It is basically a low-carb diet which does not offer the "reward meal" in the evening. My Gyn. recently told me that at this age and this stage of the game hormonally, you need to get your metabolism up with exercise to lose weight. Diets alone just don't work. Our pool is offering an adult swim team and I look forward to that because running, and even walking bothers my joints. Oh joy! [Roll Eyes]
