Taking Away Our Parents' Car Keys - 12/10/12 09:19 PM

I just read an article on this topic. And it started me thinking. My dad has told me that when the time came that he had to take away his mother's car keys, it was the hardest thing he has ever had to do.

Driving of course, equals independence. We've all known that since we were teenagers.

Here's the article.

Has anyone here had to do this already? Any hints for how to make is easier on everyone?

Last year, some siblings tried to convince my father not to renew for his driver's license.

He renewed it. He's 83 yrs. and has prostate cancer but can still do all the normal stuff. This will be a hard one but it needs to be him letting go of the car.

He also drives my mother around since she doesn't know how to drive. No, my siblings all work full time so this one will not be easy when the time comes.
