I read just the other day that 4,153,237 marriages were performed last year. I don't want to make waves BUT shouldn't that be an even number????

Well, since a marriage is the binding of two people, the number of people getting married should be an even number, but the number of marriages, itself, does not need to be.
So, in other words, 8,305,474 people were married in 4,253,237 marriages.
Was this in the US? In Vegas? In the world? just curious
