decorations? - 12/21/05 05:41 AM

I don't know where to put this, but I've got to talk about this: What is up with those hideous inflatable Santas and snowmen that are popping up all over the place? They've got to be the absolute tackiest decorations, yet I see them in even really nice neighborhoods. Is everyone trying to be funny or what? Do people actually think they look good? Can someone enlighten me on this?

DJ,
I see you live in MD, also. I feel the same way you do about these inflatable Santas and snowmen . I told my husband tonight that they look so tacky . They are in my neighborhood in the driveways up on the roof of the house . I saw that yesterday . They sold out of them in the local store here . Yikes! what is going on. I guess I a such a snob . Ha!

Crazy !

The inflatables are all around this neighborhood also...saw 3 (of the BIG round ones) that blow snow, on my walk.
Saw 2 of the larger Santa inflatables laying face first on the ground, they don't seem to do so well in the cold.
Seems to be the craze here in town, just not at my house.

I've seen a lot of the inflatables that have deflated around here too. I think they're incredibly tacky, but I guess everyone has their own taste. I would never have put an inflatable anything on my lawn when we had our own house.

Jackie,
I even saw one on the way to Panera Bread that was the Grinch and a Snowman I think . You would see one or two , but now you see a lot . I still say tacky , tacky . They are expensive . The one at the food store near me was$ 140.00 .

DJ , guess this should have been in Whine , Ha!

Wow!!! That's a chunk of money for a chunk of plastic. I'd rather spend it by giving the money to a cause that will aid those in need at this time of year.

But I'm in too good a mood to whine right now. LOL

They're all over here too.....I don't like them!
My husband wants one....nope!! I am not paying all that money to have teenagers go on their yearly sprees slashing them!!! PLUS THE FACT I THINK THEY'RE TACKY!!! It wouldn't be that bad if people only had one...but they have a whole family!!!

There was recently a story about people paying to have their house decorated on he outside.

People paid THOUSANDS....and I could have done a better job on some of them!!!!

We're talking $20,000 and up on some!!!

We had a running family joke when I was a kid about the lawns with all the little santa, elves and others on their lawns. My mother used to claim they'd all been invaded by Martians. To this day, I smile to myself every time I see a display like that.

I was just told that the kids around here go around destroying those blow-up decorations, too. That's really sad!

I guess I posted this under Religion because there seems to be a element of sacrilege to it all. On churches I read "Christ is the reason for the season" and then on people's homes thre are santas and snowmen and grinches. Quite commercial and I daresay more pagan than Christian. Quite a contradiction.
