Anyone know the best way to remove dirt stains, like hand smudges, etc., from wallpaper without having to replace the whole wallcovering.

Gosh, Jabber, I haven't had to worry about wallpaper in a while. We use the All Natural cleaner from Seventh Generation for general cleaning. But I don't know if it will work on wallpaper. I know it took the dirty, greasy marks off the wall from where our dog used to park himself. We also use it to clean the dog door. This stuff is amazing, spray on the area and wipe off with a dry cloth. It might take two applications for really bad spots, but we use it because it's non-toxic and environmentally safe. There's also an enzyme cleaner we use for rugs called Bac-Out by a company called BioKleen. Seventh Generation has all kinds of non-toxic cleaners that we use - all of them work well.

Yonuh,
Thank you. I've never heard of "Seventh Generation" before this.
I'll research and give it a try. We've always used Bissell fiber
cleaning with Scotchguard protectant on the rugs. We bought a
Big Green Bissell rug clearner many years ago and have always
used the recommended product. I tried Lysol and some Johnson Company cleaning products around the light switches but the wallpaper is deteriorating under the use of those. Again, thanks
for the reply!

Jabber, I use Seventh Generation almost exclusively for cleaning pretty much everything, except for the Bac-out for dog and cat 'accidents'. The name comes from a saying attributed to a Native American that we as people, in all our deliberations, should consider how it will affect the 7th generation from us. The company has been around for a long time. Check out their web site when you can.

Yonuh,
I did check out Seventh Generation's website. I have never seen
any of their products in the marketplace, around here. Perhaps they're in the West, only? I don't know. But I plan on buying
7th Generation and give it a test run. Thanks again!

Yonuh,
While in the grocery store last night, I came upon on Seventh
Generation products. That's the first I had seen any; they had
laundry detergent available. Perhaps the price will come down
after it has been marketed around here for a while. Thanks.

I've never seen them either, but I bet now that I'm aware, I'll probably see them.

They offer coupons on their site if you register with them. Might be worth it.

Target sometimes has their stuff at a discount. If we're there and I see what I use, we'll stock up. I use their laundry detergent as well as the cleaners and stock up whenever they're on sale.

Thanks. I go to Target often. I'll give it try.
