I'm going on a trip to Paris and London in September. Has anyone in these forums been to either of these places? Any pointers about traveling to these two cities? Any off-the-beaten-path suggestions for places to see?

This is my first time going overseas, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Candice,
Yes, I have been to London and Scotland. By far I enjoyed Scotland more. Make sure you carry an adapter for a curling iron or hair dryer. Go to Walmart and get one of those little steamers to press your clothes if you want. Madam Trousards (misspelled) was worth the entire trip to London. The crown jewels were as well. The food sucks. I don't know any other way to tell you. Potatoes were the only thing I found I could eat. Take snacks, that will help you get thru. The rooms, with the exception of one hotel we stayed in, are all about the size of closets. Ask anybody, they will tell you the same. And if you are wanting ice in your drinks over there, forget it. It goes back to WWII...shortage and all that. The people are wonderful, friendly, and helpful. Sounds like I told you all the negatives, but I wish someone had told me before I went. If I think of anything else, I'll post it later

thanks jawjaw. I have heard about the food. I also knwo about the adapter. RIght now I'm just crossing my fingers hoping the severe heat goes away before we get there. I don't even remember how many people have dies because of the heat wave, but it was a lot.

I have been to London and it was back when my husband and I had been married for about a year. He was a student, I was working, and I won this trip.

I recall the hotel rooms being very small and basic, yet everything we needed was there. I guess we are spoiled as Americans with all the frills. [Eek!]

Anyway, something I will never forget is that we were doing the site-seeing thing and visited Westminister Abbey. It was breathtaking from the outside but we were on a tight budget. I still can't believe we did this but since my husband was more into architecture I stayed out and walked around the outside and we paid for him to do the inside tour. What were we thinking?

Now I could kick myself. I remember telling my mom that and she got such a kick out of it. There must have been other ways to stay within our budget!

Anyway, moral of the story- don't be cheap. Go for it and find ways to cut back expenditures that make more sense! [Big Grin]
