I'm dropping by because I received a sweet prompt from Dotsie and because this group has been so good to me in the past. Thought I'd share with you a bit about Book Expo America (BEA). I've been to others. Usually to sign a book (as I was at this one even though it was on my home stamping ground). But things in publishing are changing so these are the top NEW changes I saw this year.

1. BEA generally is not a good place to try to sell a book. Research publishers, yes. But most publishers have stopped sending their editors, I was told because of the cutbacks in publishing because of the recession and the slowdown in business. Now one finds in the booths mostly publicity and marketing people.

2. Publishers--even the big ones--are starting to catch up to self- and subsidy-publishers. They're finally understandig the applications of Print On Demand.

3. The Net is more and more important in promoting a book. Especially videos. And social networking. And yes, some (not all) big publishers are starting to understand this, too!

That's it, Boomers. (-: If you have any questions, let me know.
