LEARNING LIGHT FOUNDATION LAUNCHES BLANKET DRIVE
FOR CHILDREN IN URGENT NEED OF COMFORT & SECURITY
Hurricane Katrina Evacuees & Other Children to Benefit

ANAHEIM, CA November 10, 2005— The Learning Light Foundation is joining the Fairy Godmother Guild’s outreach program of collecting new, handmade blankets, quilts and afghans, for children in need of comfort and feelings of security, locally here in California and nationally.

Anyone who knits, sews, or crochets is encouraged to wrap their arms around an ill or traumatized child by donating a new, handmade, washable blanket made in a smoke-free environment. The neo-natal unit in hospitals uses these blankets to cover the isolates and as the baby moves from unit to unit, their blanket goes with them. That is why we insist the blankets be made of new washable materials from a smoke-free environment because they go into sterile surroundings. They will accept blankets in all sizes from baby size to throws, and twin size for teenagers (18yrs).

The Fairy Godmother Guild, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation*, puts out the call for blankets, which are urgently needed as a result of Hurricane Katrina and other recent natural disasters. The Guild is working in conjunction with Project Linus, a national volunteer organization, which has recently received requests for over 20,000 blankets.

Project Linus has a national network of volunteers and will distribute the collected blankets to temporary shelters for hurricane and tornado evacuees, hospitals, neo-natal units, women’s shelters, sheriff’s departments, etc., wherever children are in need of comfort in the USA. You are invited to pin a piece of paper with your name, address, phone, or email address to your blanket, quilt, throw, afghan or newborn cap and drop it off at the: Learning Light Foundation, 1212 East Lincoln Avenue Anaheim, California, 714-533-2311. Hours:

“A Blanket is to the body what music is to the soul!” Everyone knows one or more children who clutch their ‘security blanket’ to help them adjust to challenging situations. What is more challenging than serious illness, trauma, or everyday distressful situations where a child feels afraid and sometimes alone or lost? Children’s faces brighten up with delight as they choose their very own new, handmade blanket, quilt, or afghan from a colorful assortment gifted to them from compassionate people who choose to reach out and offer a handmade hug.

* The Guild has filed paperwork with the IRS for its tax-exempt status.

**Believing in the power of love to solve society’s challenges, the Fairy Godmother Guild aims to empower women to help all children fulfill the promise of their lives.
