While reading Southern Living last night I was surprised to learn that any McCormick spice tins I have in my spice collection are more than 15 years old. OMG! I can't believe I have some. It's time to clean out. How old are the spices in your cupboards?

I had nugmeg brought back from St Lucia by a friend. It was so special to me that I kept it far too long.I do replenish my spices and use rosemary chives and parsley from the garden.
Also flour and rice need to be checked .In school a teacher showed me flour mites from her store room and I was surprised.

Found a four-year old bottle of Schwartz saffron! Checked my egg bin as well and found four century eggs that are also past their shelf life. Gosh! I spend only two days in London and have not had time to clear out my freezer. I must find time to check my frozen meat. How long do they keep anyway? Does anyone know?

Lola,
Frozen meat will keep up to six months and then check for freezer burn . Spices will keep good unopen for awhile , but after open they will keep good about a year , eggs two weeks and not longer . Spices lose there flavor after awhile and then they are no good .

Dotsie, I worked for the McCormick & Co for awhile and you can call them on there toll free line and the customer service dept will tell you how long your spices are good for and from the bar code . I found an old tim spice can that is old .

If you shrink wrap your meat in one of those machine things food can stay in the freezer for a year with no peoblem at all.
